By the time ESB launched in 1971, breweries had long been in the habit of producing an ‘ordinary’ bitter and a ‘special’. Our special was the irreplaceable London Pride so we broke the mould and added a pioneering third style: an extra special bitter, brewed to a stronger 5.5% ABV. Since then, ESB has gone on to become a recognised beer style, imitated in breweries right across the world.

Bottle found in the depths of fridge of nearby hotel near Bodrum. Pours headless amber. Sweet malty nose. Taste has some sweet caramel notes. Medium to high bitterness with toffee line. Good.

My favorite beer in the early 80's. Thin frothy head. Strong malty hoppy buttery aroma. Relatively full bodied bitter with hops, some alcohol, butter and caramel in the flavor. A good example of how taste evoluates through the years. Sorry my love, I still like you, but I have an other sweetheart brew now!

So smooth, perfectly balanced and very moreish. Klar kobbergylden med fint skum som varer hele veien ned.

Tight off white head stayed on a slowly carbonating copper coloured body. Malt, caramel & toffee aroma. Medium bodied, creamy, smooth & airy over the tongue with a sharp finish. Toffee, caramel, syrup, dark berry & faint hop tastes with a long fruity finish.

On tap. Pours a clear copper with light head. Aromas of grain, toasted malts and mineral water. Flavors follow same with more biscuity malts and a bit of dry toffee. Classic old style.

Cask at Churchill's Arms, London. deep amber color, clear, fine offwhite head. Aroma is fruity and juicy, lots of berries, cherry, pear and red apple, banana, caramel, a touch of lemon. Taste is light sweet, some grass, light bitterness. Medium to full body, malty, biscuits. Finish is quite dry, malty, fruity. Smooth texture as carbonation, silku creamy texture, long finish. Iconic esb likely, worth it.
