New England’s Original IPA | As enjoyable today as it was in ‘93, IPA is a regional favorite and a craft beer classic. Styled after an English IPA but brewed with distinctly American hops, it’s citrusy, refreshing, and perfectly balanced– as perfect on a Cape Cod beach as it is in a VT ski lodge or Boston dive bar.

Yet another sample that I got in a trade with Wasatch. Thanks John!
This pours from 12oz bottle(best by 10-10-07) a clear light gold with a 1 finger head of foam that recedes slightly but remains as a solid fine layer right to the end of the session.
The smell is of grapefruit and a touch of malt but it's pretty light on the nose.
The taste is pretty light also but I get some nice hop *and* malt flavours. The hops are mostly grapefruit but the malt moves in quickly to balance out what bitterness the hops injected. This is a *very* balanced IPA that is smooth drinking, medium bodied, medium in carbonation, and it finishes slightly citrusy.
Bottom line: This kind of reminds me of a English Style IPA in that the malt character doesn't just make an appearance, it shares equal billing with the hops. It's a very balanced brew and easy to drink. I like it.

Clear golden color with a fine white head. Ok lacing. Fine citric and caramel malty aroma. Medium body and an ok carbonation level. Ok balance between sweetness and bitterness. Fruity, citric hoppy, caramel malty and pine in the flavor. Decent lasting tail. Nice refreshing ale. IPA for everybody.

½ Pint Cask split by two with SinH4 @ Waterloo Tap. Happy B-Day! Golden, creamy white. Nose is doughy grain, old cereal, soap, smells like an old IPA. Taste is weak old grainy sugar, mellow IPA, herbal, hay,… Stale grain bodied. Man this is weak, weak I say.

Keg at the Flying Pig, Cambridge. Deep golden and clear. Heavily carbonated with a large but quickly disappearing white head. A fair bit of lacing is left. Light resin, citrus, cantaloupe, banana in the nose. I’m used to IPAs with exciting aromas and the passive nature of this one is a bit of a surprise. Simple bittersweet taste. Not so much to it although it’s agreeable. Some slightly astringent hop bitterness near the end. Melon on the aftertaste. Heavy carbonation on the palate. Well-enough put together that it can survive being on the bland side.
