Pours hazy deep golden with a off-white head. Aroma has notes of malt, rye, caramel, citrus, grape and pine. Taste is medium sweet and medium bitter with a long malty, caramel, citrus, grape and pine finish. Body is medium to full, texture is oily, carbonation is soft.

Bottle. An unclear, dark golden-orange beer with a small, dense, off-white head. The aroma is rather sweetish, with tropical fruits pine cones and resin. Some pale malts, almost bready, and with a hint of alcohol. It has a nice bitterness in the mouth, it’s quite sweet too, yet it feels dryish. Tropical fruits, resins, pine cones and some pale malts. Full body, quite low on carbonation and with a touch of warmth. Lasting finish. Quite nice this one, but a bit out of balance. 150610

Location: 12 oz bottle from Nikki's Liquors, 4/23/15
Aroma: The nose is caramel malts, some butterscotch, rye bread, spice, and some light earth
Appearance: Pours an unclear caramel-amber color with a small beige head and light, spotty lace
Flavor: The taste is medium sweet, a good amount of spice/rye, and a reasonably bitter finish
Palate: The body is medium, it feels slightly cloying, a little sticky, with a mid-dry finish
Overall Impression: I found this one to be a pretty solid rye beer, but not a particularly on-style DIPA. The freshness date is August, so I don't think that is the issue, but the hops are just a little lacking here (especially in the aroma). Still, as a rye beer, it does a good job, and there's a decent bitterness in the close. It grew on me as I drank it, and I probably enjoyed the 12th oz more than the 1st.
