Named in honor of George A. Schilling, this is a double-decocted dark Bavarian-style lager. Rich, complex Munich malt takes center stage, presenting notes of nuttiness, bread, and undertones of caramel. Dry and sessionable.

Pint can. Bready malt aroma with notes of caramel, toffee, nutty malt, molasses, honey and earthy malt. Pours dark caramel colored with half a finger of off white head that has excellent retention and decent lacing. Starts with bready malt, caramel, toffee and molasses flavors. Finishes quite smooth with nutty malt, honey and earthy malt. Excellent dunkel.

Reviewed from notes.
Can to lager glass.
Appearance: dark red to brown color with a two and a half fingers of eggshell white foamy head which settled off nicely to leave some light lace
Aroma: sweet & toasted nuttiness, molasses, honey, breadiness, earthiness and sweet grains
Flavor: melds the prior noted aromas to a fine sweet to toasted bready & earthy quality; finishes bready sweet & nutty
Texture: between light & medium bodied, sessionable, pretty smooth along the tongue, good carb level
Overall: I say a very nicely done Munich dunkel lager very worthy of returning to.

Becher at the roost pours a murky brown with some creamy, off white head. Nose has malt, brown sugar, very earthy, yeast, bread crust. Flavor is malt and grain, earthy like tree bark. Chewy. Medium bodied with some tannins. Feels so Schilling to me.

Can (9/16/22) pour from Beer and Wine Nation (5% ABV). It's a lightly hazy iced-tea/pale maple syrup with light sparkle, 2-plus finger tan foamy head with good retention and light lacing. Aroma is balanced moderately strong dry, earthy roasted malt, straw, brown bread, vanilla, nuts. Taste follows aroma. Mouthfeel is light bodied with thin, smooth texture, soft carbonation and finish as taste. Overall, not super strong but good complexity if you take a moment to look for it.

Canned 9/16/22, drunk 10/1/22. Clear cola-mahogany. Medium, off-white head showing moderate retention. Hay, sweat, mineral, coffee, cola, molasses, vanilla, honey...etc, etc...just so damned complex. While the specialty malt is there, there's tons of base malt, as well. Hops add light herbs and pepper but still let the malt do its thing. In the mouth it's soft, malty, well-attenuated, with vanilla, cocoa, chocolate, honey and hay. Great herbal bitterness that works with the chocolate nicely. Lingering cocoa, light hazelnut and vanilla with a touch of sticky honey-like base malt. These guys are just wow.

Pours clear mahogany into a stein. Tan head crackles and recedes to skim surface. Toasted caramel aromas. Crisp and dry with toasted brown bread and dark caramel front to back. Lasting earthy hop finish.

Fresh can. A near clear brownish color. Flavor of toasted grain, toffee, caramelized malts. Lager yeast, hints of mild molasses. Nicely drying texture. Spot on representation of the style. Quality.

Tap at Redbones Sommerville. Dark copper in color with a frothy off white head that persists. Rich crusty toasty maltiness with a hint of earth to counter. Pairs well with brisket imho.
