This American Black Ale borders on IPA territory with a big, fruity and citrus hop bite in a deliciously dark package. Brewed with intense hops—Citra, Idaho 7, Simcoe and Crystal—and a dose of midnight wheat to lend its color without any harsh or roasted malt flavors.

Tap at Cap Hop. Pours very, very dark brn/blk with a beige or tan head. Aroma is dark malt and pine/resin that might be dankish. Med body or so. Flavor is dark untreacly malt with earthy/pine hop that is trying for dank. There’s a herb flavor permeating everything, and it might be hemp. Rather clean for a Black IPA IMHO. The malt isn’t annoying like some others in this style. Pretty good.

On draft at Tap 25. It pours a dark brown color with orange highlights. Nice creamy tan head. The aroma has lots of dank pot. Very hop forward with some hints of grapefruit and roasted malt. The flavor is also weed heavy with some spice, grapefruit, toast and hints of treacle. Hardly any roasted malt, which is nice but there’s still some really big dense malt flavors to go with an aggressive marijuana hop profile. Powerful stuff. Very smooth on the palate though. A nice representation of the style.

Reddish dark brown, off white head. very faint fudge with a bit of rye and munich. Very light carb with a tiny bite at the end, The flavor is pretty weak…not sure what I was expecting but there’s cocoa, some spice and a light roasted finish.
