As the Kernville temps dip our spicy rye Winter Ale warms up the taps. It gets its kick from rye but has plenty of hops to balance out the malt.

Bottle - thanks IrishBoy! Pours hazy amber with a small white head and decent lacing. Aroma is not strong - spruce, pine, citrus. Flavor is about the same, lightly sweet and light to medium bitter. Medium body, some oilyness. A solid entry, but doesn’t really rise above the pack.

Sample at a weekly bottle sharing event at Red House BBQ in Tehachapi, CA on 02/02/2013. The beer pours a clear dark golden color with a medium off-white head that diminishes steadily. Stringy lacing on the glass. Aroma of citrus, biscuit malt and pine. Medium-bodied with flavors of piney hops, grapefruit and bready malt. The finish is moderately bitter with a lingering citrusy hops aftertaste. Pretty good overall.

From a 22 oz bottle shared with friends. Pours a hazy orange copper with a quickly receding thick white head. Aroma of pine and citrus. Lovely flavors of orange zest, biscuit, pine and grapefruit. Bitter finish but not intense. Very nice DIPA.

Bottled. An unclear dark golden beer with a yellowish head. The aroma has notes of hops, flowers, malt, and lactose. The flavor is sweet with notes of hops, lemons, straw, grass, and minerals, leading to a bitter finish.

Bottle 65 cl. Courtesy of Doodler. Pours golden with a slight haze and a white head. Tight hoppy nose, a little bonbonish and not overly aromatic. Medium body, quite densely malty and fruity sweet with typical biscuity American malts. Very bitter finish. An interesting spicy and different hop. 221112
