Location: 12 oz bottle from Gilly's, 5/29/09
Aroma: A really odd nose on this one, like a bar of soap wrapped in a pound of butter
Appearance: Decent looking orange color with a slight amber hue, thin head that dissipates quickly, some decently lively bubbles
Flavor: Tastes better then it smells, but its hard to get over the nose, a very light rye flavor, a subtle sweetness, not terrible, but not a lot there.
Palate: Light body, some fizz, smooth and drinkable, but underwhelming
Overall Impression: The smell sure doesn't give a very good first impression. I doubt I'll run out to try this again...
All in all, it's not terrible, but you might want to hold your nose!

**Got stuck with this as part of the June 2009 Beer of the Month Club and I actually LOWERED the score, I think I didn't do this beer justice giving it a 1.9 the first time, this is a more accurate rating.

12oz bottle. Filtered tan color. Cream soda sweet aroma. Sweet and malty, with the rye flavor coming through almost like sorghum. The moderate hopping balances it enjoyably enough, making it at least a decent session beer.

Fresh yeasty aroma, nothing offensive on the olfactory. Brownish pale yellow, almost orange, but not quite. Nice release of carbonation when I pop open the bottle. Aroma goes candy sweet in the glass, somewhat like good hellers I’ve smelled. A little bitter on the tongue initially. This bitterness builds to medium strength after a while into the session. Interestingly rude. Average carbonation. Lingering medicine on the finish.

12oz bottle-pours a foamy white head and amber color. Aroma is grain-caramelized, rye, some musty. Taste is somewhat sweet rye malt bomb and dryness which balances nicely. Slight amount of bittering hops, maybe some spicy hops. Mild carbonation.

Bottle from Market Street Wine Shop Downtown in Charlottesville. Yet another underwhelming Lancaster offering. Amber color with a 2-finger head and good lacing. Fruity caramel aroma with a touch of rye. Pretty much the same in the taste. Rye is extremely subtle, and the beer overall is bland and a little watery.

Very clear amber body with a medium creamy off-white head. Butterscotch, caramel, toffee, with grainy hints. More butterscotch flavor, light grain, and faint rye hints finally shining through. Medium light body with moderately low carbonation.

Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a dark caramel-amber color with a very large tan head that lingered. The aroma was dryish, spicy, grainy and lightly fruity. The flavor was dry, grainy and tangy with an odd butterscotch element that grew and a bitter floral hop presence. The finish was bitter and spicy with a lingering butterscotch note.
