Peaty is one of a kind but yet part of a duo. A single imperial stout that we let rest on two different types of Swedish High Coast Whisky oak barrels. A few of the barrels were smooth and the others, you guessed it, peaty. One of the ways we like it. Skål!
There arn’t too many Swedish whiskey makers, so getting a couple of barrels from one of them, for us, is a big deal. We stroke up a conversation with High Coast Whiskey and they sent us a couple of barrels that had previously contained their peaty whiskey and a couple that had contained an un-peated version. Let’s call that version smooth. Upon receiving the barrels we filled it with the best beery, malty lovely liquid canvas we could think of to showcase both beer and barrel flavor. This resulted in two beers; Peaty and Smooth. A true testament of what whisky barrels can bring to a beer. Heaven!

Poured from 330mL bottle (stamped 12/11/2024). Very dark brown with minimal off-white head. Aroma is molasses-y roast malt with super feint peat. Taste is a massive peat bomb with some chocolate and molasses in the background, smooth for the abv. Well integrated, enjoyable.

11.2 oz. bottle, pours black with a small tan head. Aroma is loaded with peated smoked whiskey barrels and some medium roast buried underneath. Flavour is rich and smoky, with a wonderful peated whiskey barrel character, followed by deep roast, dark chocolate, and even more peated smoke. Rich, oily palate, with moderate sweetness. That peat character is just lovely. If you're into Islay BA impies, you'll love this as I do.
