The Northwest’s original, unfiltered and dry hopped amber ale. African Amber’s pioneering and innovative style is proof that drink-abilty does not have to be achieved by sacrificing flavor. This beer erupts with a floral, hoppy taste, followed by a well rounded malty middle, finishing with a nicely organic hop flavor. Locally sourced two row grain and a blend of specialty malts give our amber its rich taste. Further complexity is achieved by leaving the beer unfiltered, providing exceptional flavor, as well as giving our amber its unique "cloudy" look. Lastly, we actually place a bag of fresh, locally grown, Yakima valley hops in each keg creating what has become the original, cult classic, northwest amber ale.

On tap at SEATAC. Pours with a hazed orange-copper hued body and a large lasting off-white head. Aromas are malt forward, toasty, nutty, mild esters, and a light hop fruitiness. Flavors are malt forward (toasted and light kilned rather than dextrinous). Nutty, cereal, some melanoidins. Medium bitterness drives the mid palate balance. Hop flavor is minimal and slightly citric and floral. Fermentation is pretty clean with mild esters. Medium bodied, medium high carbonation for the style. Solid; very glad this is not laden with crystal.

Draft pour. This was probably the first beer I ever had on draft, and now almost 4 years later, it still hasn’t gotten old. One of the few crafts in the Seattle area that you can find just about anywhere. Overall this beer is unique in many ways. Very different nutty flavor and aroma. Well balanced beer. It’s got nice hop flavor that doesn’t overpower. In a way I owe this beer to introducing me to the craft beer world. For that, I give my thanks. Love this beer. Oldie but a goodie for me. Uodate: Annual retry. Still good, but less impressive than ever before. Still enjoy this when options are limited

Sampled on tap at the Taphouse, pours a cloudy orangey amber with a small off-white head. Aroma of caramel malt, hops, dry citrus fruits and bready qualities. Flavour is a very refreshing balance of caramel malt and citrus hops, with a quite a dry, slightly bready mouthfeel. This is how you make a good amber ale. Enjoyable.
