APA by the ultimate pioneer of modern Norwegian craft brewing, from a can shared by Pedro, thanks! Snow white, mousy, frothy, dense head on a lightly hazy, pale golden blonde beer. Aroma of dusty old lemon zest, bread crumbs, chalk dust, hard unripe pear, old dried thyme, soap, crushed green peppercorns, cheese rind. Cleanly fruity onset, notes of green banana, old dry lemon peel and unripe apricot, sweetish but restrainedly so, fizzily carbonated with minerally effect; slick and smoothly cereally pale malt sweetish middle leading to a ‘dusty’ hoppy finish of dry old ‘herbes de Provençe’, dried onions and dried grapefruit peel with a cheesy note, providing a softish yet quenching and long-stretched bitterness. Like the other three cans we had that lovely evening in Pedro’s new restaurant, clearly too old, with the hops having acquired a ‘dusty’ and somewhat cheesy character and having lost most of their aroma, but ‘reconstructing’ this beer mentally, I can imagine it being indeed more ‘fruity’ when fresh and there is no doubt that it has been well made. Norwegian decency from a pre-Lervig era, let’s say, and that also goes for the Amundsen and Aegir IPAs we had in the same session.
