Charlies Cool Porter is an organic porter at 5.9% ABV. Porter takes its name from the politically incorrect tradition that took place in the English ports in olden days. The harbour workers, the porters, had a beer or two in the morning before they had to start the hard work in the harbour. Charlie Chaplin was also politically incorrect in the thirties as were the brave Frenchmen, who established the satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo in the seventies. They made a lot of fun of self-importance, with institutions, religions as well as with those in power. No one escaped satire and there was an equal split out to the right and left. But it came to a tragic end by a cowardly attack which cost 17 people their lives. The consequence of this must not be that there is less room for satire and making fun of fools and rulers. Try this beer to heavy stews.

Medium beige head. Opaque black body. Earthy sooty dry wood aroma with chocolatey notes. Sweetish earthy mineraly taste with chocolatey notes. Mid-bodied. Mild, soft, slightly flat mouthfeel. Sweetish earthy chocolatey aftertaste with mealy earthy minty burnt notes. Nice, subdued, drinkable. Perhaps a bit burnt and austere. Could use more complexity. (0.5l bottle, from Fish & Beer, Copenhagen.)

500ml bottle, trade with Skinnyviking. Smoke when opened. Fawn-coloured tophead, scattered lacing, body black as pitch, Mid-sweet dark malty aroma, nicely roasted. Slightly roasted dark malty flavours with impacts of dark chocolate and a backdrop of malty bitterness towards the ending. Medium bodied. Soft on the swallow. Decent porter (hotel room, Copenhagen 14.05.2016).

(Keg at HBF2016) The beer poured black. Its head was medium sized and nearly white. Aroma had roasted malts and cocoa. Palate was medium bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were dark chocolate, sweetness, burnt malts, bitter cocoa and bitterness. Aftertaste was burnt and bitter. A well done chocolatey porter.
