In unserer GARDEN SERIES verarbeiten wir natürliche Zutaten aus heimischen und exotischen Gärten. Das können Früchte, Kräuter, Wurzeln und Gemüse sein. Was passt kommt rein.

Sampled from 0.33 l bottle at FDDB 2017. Minimally hazy, golden yellow with a medium large, frothy, slowly diminishing, white head. Sourish, herbal-spicy and a bit fruity aroma of lots of cucumber, lemon, coriander and some rhubarb. Slightly sweetish, moderately sourish, herbal-spicy and a bit fruity taste of massive cucumber, lemon, rhubarb, wheat and coriander, followed by a short, slightly tart and a bit salty finish. Thin to medium body, smooth, slightly creamy and a bit effervescent mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Nice and refreshing!

Gose made with actual gherkins, sampled at RBBWG in Antwerp. Thin and loosely structured head, off-white moussy rim, cloudy ochre blonde robe with greenish hue. Aroma teems with raw non-pickled gherkins (of the large variety I remember my grandmother cultivated) laying on top of sour-sweet piccalilly, fresh cucumber cubes, silverskin onions, raw ribbed celery, white bread, soap, Japanese green seaweed salad, green olives - in general, probably the most vegetable-like aroma I ever encountered in a beer, but this time not coming from pasteurization or other off-flavours, but from actual green vegetables, fascinating and not unattractive at all. Pure raw gherkin flavor (cucumber-like, but this is really the same plant species), even some spoiled cucumber turned yellow, soapy wheatiness very apparent from the start, softish carbo, lovely salty side flavour (fresh green seaweed - salt and umami), sour yoghurt-like tartness drying the palate, spicy green bell pepper notes, seaweed and gherkin lingering in the aftertaste with some saltiness and ongoing drying tartness. Very weird beer, with the basic sourness and saltiness of a Gose matching exceptionally well with the added gherkin - reinforcing each other, leading to a feast of umami, salty and ’green’, very pure vegetable flavours; if ever there was a beer style suitable for making vegetable beer, Gose must be it. In anticipation of the first real Sauerkraut-flavoured Gose, this is among the most delicious examples of this acquired style I have encountered so far - and very refreshing after many hours of intense tasting and rating... Yet very clearly a beer that will sharply divide opinions, this is something you’ll only like if you are into raw vegetables and ’vegetative’ umami effects.

Thank you tderoeck! 330 ml. bottle sampled @ RBBWG VI (2017). Hazy orange, little white head. Nose is straight up cucumber, not gherkin but juice basic cucumber, faintest mint. Taste is just sparkling fresh cucumber with sourish profile, vinegar, low pickle juice but largely fresh cucumber, fizzy, basic sour,... Insanely refreshing. Fun, silly beer. You need to be into cucumbers.

25/II/17 - 33cl bottle, shared @ RBBWG (Beerlovers Bar, Antwerpen) - BB: XII/29/16 (wtf? US notation) (2017-266) Thanks to D. Geers for the bottle!
Cloudy amber to beige beer, small to practically no head. Aroma: lots and lots of cucumber. MF: soft carbon, lots and lots of cucumber. Taste: sourish, lots of gherkins, bit acidic, cucumber. Aftertaste: more gherkins, cucumber, sour. Weird, but not half as bad as I had feared!

Aroma is cucumber, philadelphia, toast. Taste is pickle sourness and cucumber stuff. Nice. Could be pickle water, but is somehow great. Easy to drink, refreshing. A nice idea, well manufactured.

Tap. Hazy orange color with white head. Aroma is cucumber, just fresh cucumber. Taste is cucumber, salt, bready, a bit peppery. Very refreshing. Tastes like a nice cucumber sandwich. Great for what it is.
