(Keg at Sori Taproom, 20181023) The beer poured clear and dark brown. Its head was small and white. Aroma had vanilla, soap and excessive sweetness. Palate was full bodied and warming with medium carbonation. Flavours were sweetness, vanilla, sweetness, more sweetness, alcohol, malts and bitterness. Aftertaste was sweet, boozy and bitter. A sweet boozy mess.

Draught @ Sori Taproom, Helsinki. Pours dark brown with a tiny head. Aroma of bourbon, malts, caramel, toffee, oak, wood, syrup and earthiness. Taste is sweet, syrupy and heavy with bourbon notes, wood, oak, toffee, vanilla, caramel and loads of malts. Finish is malty, sweet and sticky with massive amounts of bourbon, wood, oak, toffee, vanilla and syrup. Heavy bourbon overdose.

Poured from a 750 ml, 2016 vintage bottle. Aroma is malt forward with some moderate bourbon notes and faint vanilla. Lots of caramel and toffee with lighter treacle. Faint chocolate and burnt sugar notes. Medium light bourbon and faint oak. A bit more vanilla as it warms. Pours a fairly clear, brown color with auburn and amber hues with a fairly large, thick, dark tan head that recedes steadily to a thin film that lingers. Light lacing and fairly long legs. Flavor is rather sweet with lots of malt character. Moderate bitterness and alcohol spice. Medium light bourbon and light oak notes. Light vanilla. Lots of caramel and toffee with lighter treacle, chocolate, toasted bread and burnt sugar notes. Medium light vanilla notes. Mouthfeel is full bodied with medium carbonation. Low astringency and medium low alcohol warmth. Overall, a nice barley wine. Lots of malt character with complementary vanilla and bourbon notes. Alcohol is there but it's not too strong; though the ABV is a bit higher than I would prefer. It's sweet, but not over the top sticky.

Keg at Brewdog Soho, London. An amber/brown coloured pour with a thin off white head on top. Sweet aroma of vanilla, bourbon and caramel. Tastes sweet, boozy, bourbon, vanilla, caramel, slightly sticky. Very nice barley wine but a third of a pint was more than enough.
