Our interpretation of a Belgian style quad, Four Ale is reddish brown in color and has flavors of raisin, candied fruit, and plum. We brew this beer with four malts (Caramel, Munich, Carapils, and 2-row), four sugars (Cane Sugar, Date Sugar, Belgian Dark Rock Candi, and Molasses), four hop varieties (Perle, Hallertau, Tettnang and Czech Saaz) and undergoes four fermentations, using four different yeast strains. The result of this elaborate brewing process is a complexity of flavor, aroma and mouth feel we believe is truly worth savoring.

bottle - I’ve had this bottle for a couple years. Pours mostly clear amber/red with a thin off-white head. The aroma is yeasty and malty with ample dark fruit, particularly cherries. The flavor is very sweet and malty with dark fruit notes. It’s full bodied and very flavorful, with mostly buried alcohol. The sweetness carries right through into the finish. Very enjoyable.

Batch 15. Pours with a large, off-white creamy head with great lacing. Very murky to opaque, pretty amber brown body. Aroma of raspberry, dark fruits, plums, a bit of toffee, a touch of burnt malt, oak and caramel. Taste is of raisins, raspberries, a bit of soggy malt, alcohol, caramel, brandy and butterscotch. Creamy with light bubbles. Tasted young, but I think I am going to try to age a bottle for 5 years or so.

Courtesy of Sea Bass. Pours clear amber with thin light tan head. The aroma has full varied maltiness with special B, roasted malts, caramel malts to go along with earthy and spice hops. The taste has a nice hit of hop bitterness from the start with spice and earthy hops and some pine hop bitterness to boot. The malts move in with roastiness, cara Munich dark like malts that well up but don’t manage to overtake the hops

Sampled at Max’s Taphouse in Baltimore. Pours a clear copper color with no head and some tight bubbles. Aroma is wheaty and yeasty with some hay and whiskey. Flavor is malty with sweet candy, yeast and some brandy. Finish is thick and boozy. Could either use more complexity or some more subtlety.

75cl bottle. Pours amber/orange with a beige head. Smells of caramel and bread and dough. Taste is mildly sweet and slightly carbonated. Not a bad brew, but there are definately better quads that are widely availbable.

750 mll bottle. Enticing array of flavors and a velvet texture make for an interesting and ejoyable beer that would have been better if it weren’t so sweet. Appealing dark brown pour with a wispy, off-white head. The aroma was musty and malty sweet with notes of molasses, ripe plumbs, peach, cobwebs and clove. The flavor is heavily sweet, lightly bitter and lightly acidic. Medium to full body and a smooth texture. Long finish.

Bottle: Pours a rich mahogany color with a modest beige head. An aroma of caramel and sweetness abounds. Flavor is very rich with brown sugar, caramel, dark fruitiness, and raisons. I loved the balance here. No one flavor stands out, but its not lacking either.
