Sampled draft at the patio bar on Андріївський узвіз near Bulgakov Museum (great tour & museum by the way). This one seemed like the biggest beer in Ukraine so I figured that I needed to investigate it. Totally clear beer, little white head. Nose is dull sweet apple, grain, low stale urine. Taste is sweet grainy soap, low plastic, sugar, bland, soft carbonation, near low cooked cabbage. Pretty weak, expected it a tad better even though it is a giant industrial beer. Brewery used to have some genuine history but these days it is just an industrial hollow shell masquerading.

Wenn man ein ein neues fremdes Land kommt, ist oftmals die Frage, welches Bier, das oft ausgeschenkt wird, kann man gut trinken. Ich glaube das Lemberger Bier ist so eines. Die Brauerei wurde 1715 von Jesuiten in der damals viertgrößten Stadt der k.u.k.-Monarchie eröffnet und gilt als die älteste Brauerei in der Ukraine. Der Brauerei ist auch ein Museum mit Verkostungsstube angeschlossen wo diverse Dokumente auf Deutsch, Polnisch, Russisch und Ukrainisch von der bewegten Vergangenheit schildern Es ist ein typisches Helles mit leicht herben Geschmack und stabiler feinporiger Schaumkrone. Geschmacklich steht es deutschen und österreichischen Industriebieren nichts nach. Es ist natürlich nichts besonderes, aber für mich das beste Industriebier des Landes.

Sampled from a 16.9 oz brown bottle this beer poured a bright yellow-golden color with a huge soapy white head that left decent lacing. The aroma was sweetish, yeasty and grassy. The flavor was sweetish, yeasty, grassy and had a bit of lemon. Medium length finish. Light body. Bland and inoffensive.

50 cl. bottle. my first Ukrainian beer, as country # 56. Clear, golden colour with a fast fading, bubbly white head. Sweet aroma with pale malts, grass, fruits, lightly spicy. Taste is light sweet. Medium body with a creamy texture and a lively carbonation. Finishes dry and slightly bitter with an earthy touch. Given the origin, fairly safe. But nothing special.

Bottle from Kaufland Boleslawiec. Clear Pale yellow with a mid-sized white head, hoppy and malty-sweet aroma. Light-bodied, malty start with a grainy touch, slightly sweet, with quite nice green hops, grassy, with hints of hay. Very drinkable, nothing much wrong here.
