Black indeed with a creamy tanned head. Nose is pine resin, very thick, herbal bitter, raw with some red grape, illusion of black chocolate, very bitter, raw. Taste is extremely bitter, one of the harshest IPA’s I have ever had, extremely really, very bitter herbal, lingering, burned malts, low very bitter licorice, burned malts, lingering burned malts, bitterness really last, very bitter red grape, aggressive,... Very thick black malt, syrup, burned malts, roast body. Extremely bitter in a more old fashioned fashion, brutal, enjoyable even if hard to drink.

Bottle pour at Shelton Brothers. Deep black with very little head. Big coffee and baker’s chocolate nose, piney hops, a bit of cabernet. Sharp bitterness with some almost vinous like sourness. Hopey, piney bite on the finish with some roastiness.

On tap at Foresters Hall, pours black with a small tan head. Aroma brings out a mix of roasted malt and light piney hops. Flavour is along the same lines, with light roasted malt and harsh piney hops. Rather astringent. Pretty harsh but it's okay. Probably a function of the beer traveling such a far distance but this isn't great as is.

500ml bottle. Jet black colour with average to huge, thick, frothy to creamy, fairly lasting, moderately lacing, beige to tan head. Roasty, dark malty aroma, piney, citrusy and slightly herbal hoppy overtones, hints of grapefruit, orange, mango and passion fruit, coffee and dark chocolate come intertwined as green onion. Taste is bitter, citrusy and piney hoppy, notes of grapefruit, orange, mandarine, moderately sweet, roasty, chocolately malty basis; lasting bitter finish. Very good, maybe a Mu too sweet.

The Sampler, Brooklyn nitro: pours black with fat nitro tan head. Aroma is floral, spicy, and maybe a tad fruity with roasted malts and the like. Taste is nicely bitter. Chocolate and roast comes in better through the taste. Nice gooey aftertaste. Gets a bit more bitter with the ensuing sips. Nice.
