This Peppermint Victory at Sea is a festive take on our popular Imperial Porter. We took our trademark robust porter brewed with Caffe Calabria coffee and vanilla and added a dose of refreshing peppermint. The trio of flavors play perfectly on your palate – the brew’s sweet roastiness balances nicely with a cool, minty finish. You might even call it a breath of fresh beer.

Growler fill from Filling Station on Fifth. Listed as Peppermint Victory at Sea. Aroma is chocolatey, peppermint, light smoke, faint green pepper. Pours black with a tan head with good retention. Taste has a hoppy bitterness alongside the roastiness and a light sweetness; there’s some faint spicy heat. Flavors of peppermint, coffee, vanilla. Good.

On tap at The Good Hop. It pours black with a creamy tan head. The aroma if fresh and minty with some cocoa. The peppermint is definitely noticeable, but doesn’t overpower the base beer. The flavor is the same. Nice fresh mint that melds nicely with the strong minty, earthy bitterness of the beer. Also the dark chocolate and coffee adds another interesting dimension. Smooth mouthfeel. Probably the best one of the three variants I had as far as flavor integration goes, but I think overall I preferred the coconut.

This was poured into a snifter.
The appearance was a dark brown close to black color with a one finger off white to tan foamy head that dissipated at a nice pace.
The smell had the peppermint up front of some vanilla, coffee and cocoa beans.
The taste took all of those previously mentioned flavors blended sweetly with a touch of spiciness from the peppermint. Roastiness is there but mostly hidden. Peppermint causes a dry spicy finish.
On the palate, this one sat about a medium on the body with a fairly decent sipping quality about it. Carbonation feels about medium allowing a light stickiness to occur on my tongue.
Overall, I say this was a pretty good double/Imperial Stout that I would have again.

Tap at Capitol Beer in Sacramento, CA. Pours dark brown with a large creamy tan head a la Guinness. Aroma is sort of peppermint and chocolate. Med + body. flavor is rather peppermint and chocolate. It’s either a bit spicy (peppermint) or there’s a slight heat burn. Which is it? Who can tell? Tasty stuff.

Draft 8 oz pour at SandH. Pours black with a lasting tan fizz head. Huge minty chocolate aroma with a touch of coffee. Thin mints for sure. Very nice minty chocolate candy flavor with a coffee roast finish. Delicious!

On cask. Pours with a black hued body and a lasting tan head. Aroma: Christmas. It smells like peppermint bark. Period. Maybe some cola and fudge. Flavors are kind of dry compared to the nose (which is straight candy). Some bitter peppermint, fudge, roast and chocolate. Unique for sure. Mild alcohol, spicy on the palate. Creamy with low carbonation. Full bodied. Fun.
