Black beer, thick off-white head. Looks perfect. An interesting combinatiion in both the aroma and taste. Rye, malt, grassy citrus, hops, toastiness, spices. I don't know that I'd want more than one in a sitting but it's nice and impressive that it's balanced well enough for those flavours to each hold their own.

Keg at the Rusty Bucket, Eltham. Dark brown pour with a beige head. Nose of chocolate, blackcurrant jam, light smoke action, some bitter hop. Getting the same in the flavour with a touch of coffee in there to balance things out a bit. Good stuff.

2016 catch up - Bottle at home from Bottledog (which is sadly no more) - One of my favourite black IPAs. The flavour of the malt alongside the hops is fantastic and there is a great mouthfeel. The whole beer is totally integrated and it is like a velvet kiss.

Bottle, label says 6.5%. Appearance- very dark, opaque, a one-finger beige foamy head. Aroma- hops, grapefruit, orange, caramel, dark malts, milky coffee hints. Taste- roast malt, caramel, toast, bitter coffee, hops, cold coffee, toasty bitter malt on the finish. Smooth mouthfeel, quite a long finish. Good.

(Thx!) Sampled draft (twice) @ Tilquin English Beer Festival 2016. Very hazy brown, tanned head. Nnose is massive blue cheese hop, Sorachi ace, low mocha, chewy malts & toffee, beautiful. Taste is massive Sorachi Ace blue ceese hops, some mocha, butterscotch, chewy malts,..; massively creamy. This fulfils my love for Sorachi Ace, this is beauty, I need this to be a standard thing. I love you.

Draft @ Tilquin English Fest ’16, courtesy of and shared with the fine Belgian RB crew.
