Vestige is a saison brewed with smoked German malts and noble European hops. Formerly known as “Bowie,” this is our Schlenkerla Helles inspired farmhouse ale which incorporates a touch of beechwood smoked malt into the mash and is balanced by Saaz hops in the kettle. Blonde in color with notes of smoke, black pepper, lemon peel, and earth with a dry and refreshing finish.

Draft at Max’s Taphouse. Gold color, hazy, can’t see through it well. Aroma is just light sweet smoke with an herbal and peppery Belgian. Flavor has the smallest tinge of smoke. Mostly a non-estry, not sweet, minerally, and peppery beer. Decent stuff, I want more smoke, less pepper, and more rustic components.

4 oz. draft, Copenhagen Brewfest, Boston. Let me start by saying I dislike smoked malts. Aroma of Rustic grain, mild melon pulp and yes smoke.
Lightly peppery yeast, dough, musty basement and light smoke. Yeah, the smoke is subtle but I still have a hard time getting around it.

Tap at Rattle west enjoyed this more than I thought and I thought I’d like. Golden pour big puffy head that stays. Nose is tropical fruit and hint of smoke. Tastes bready, white zin, melon, musk, light smoke. Smooth palate but high carb. Sweet finish.

750 ml bottle from the Portland location. Bright gold. Fizzy white head and medium lace. Yeast and peppery aroma. Some lemon notes. Smoke malt is subtle and on the background. In the flavor, the smoke malt and peat flavors are much stronger than the aroma. Pepper comes through heavy too. Gets a bit meaty on the close. Pretty good smoked beer, which is where I would categorize this. Well balanced, doesn't overwhelm with the meat or peat.

On tap @EurHop (Rome). Pours unclear golden with a little white head. Aroma is funky and a bit confused, malt, yeasts, corn, barnyard, light smoke. Flavour is light sweet with some smoked notes, light bitter in the end. Medium body, light carbonation. Not my cup of tea.

Mild rauchiger, etwas wässriger Antrunk. Geringe Herbe, süffig, angesichts des Alkoholgehalts enttäuschend. Süffig, nett. 12/9/10/8//9

Tap at Oxbow. It pours cloudy gold with a small white head. The nose is soft, woody, dough, hay, straw, candied peel, sherbet and light lactic vibe. The taste is crisp, bitter, woody, bready, cracker, light spice, dull smoke and lemon peel with a dry finish. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Well-rounded and rather drinkable. Nice one.
