Bottle from The Gull, North Vancouver, cap 26/04/26, so likely 2 years old
Black color. Bit of roassted malts, but not much going on in the aroma. Round mouthfeel, mellow, with low carbonation and massive sweetness; malty, but with no complexity, a touch of chocolate, I wonder if there is any lactose here, the coffee is not evident, the alcohol is well hidden. It doesn't have the roasted malts nor the hops of a Black IPA.
A good drink, but dramatic lack of complexity, grossly overpriced (14$).

375ml bottle at Alex's. BB 2026-04-26. Pours a very dark brown with a dark beige head. Aroma is fruity with roasted malt and some winey notes. Taste is very sweet with fruity notes finishing with some slight roasted malt bitterness. It is strange as for a Imperial Black IPA, but quite good.

Bottle @ home. Opaque black color, superb looking medium to full sized dense brown head that lasts for a long time and leaves good lacing. Aroma is malts, coffee and sonething weird. Flavor is too, over the top vegetal green bean coffee. Weird weird weird. I don't like it unfortunately. Couldn't even finish the bottle.

375ml bottle. Pours black with a beige head. Chocolate, vanilla, coffee, orange, little grapefruit, demerara sugar, sweet milk, caramel. Not really any trace of the strength, or of an IPA, but it’s a lovely beer all the same.

BOTTLE 37 CL shared. Pitch black, espresso head. Balanced smooth coffee and hops, smooth dark chocolate, some vanilla - all well integrated and smooth. Alcohol starting to come through as it warms. Big sweetness, a little sugary / lactose like, super sweet coffee, strong hoppy bitterness trying hard to balance. Yea, the malts/sugars are somewhat over the top, but still nice.
