Blue Monk Special Reserve is a quadruple which has been aged for 3 years in red wine barrels from Château Haut Breton Larigaudière in Margaux! It is dark brown in color with a beige frothy head. It has an aroma and bouquet of a complex red wine, with a soft taste of spice, berries and black cherries. The flavour is enriched with touches of caramel, fine chocolate, toasted nuts and soft hints of smoke. The fruity elements of red and dark fruits comes from the aging in barrels fine from Château Haut Breton Larigaudière in Margaux. These flavors are adding a slight vanilla note and some refined wood tannins.

Quite sweet and malty. Woody, fruity and vinous. Lots of flavors going on, all of them nice, but not that heavy or boozy. A very nice beer.

(Bottle, 0.33 l - vintage 2013, at One Pint Pub, 20161216) The beer poured dark brown and clear. Its head was medium sized and nearly white. Aroma had dried plums, raisins, caramel and malts. Palate was medium bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were malts, caramel, dried plums, toffee, toasted malts, sweetness, grass and bitterness. Aftertaste had sweetness, caramel and bitterness. A very sweet brew with drying yeast notes.

Deep brown, cloudy. Off-white head. Good lacing. Lots of dried fruit, caramel, some smoke, yeast. Similar taste. Medium body. Splendid quality. No hook.

Shared 33cl bottle. Pours almost black with a fizzy beige head. Aroma of caramel malt, spice, dark fruits, red wine and smoky notes. Taste follows nose with some chocolate, wood and alcohol. Very good.

BOTTLE 33 CL. Dark ruby-brown, beige head. Aroma starts with a cherry pie and almonds, followed by spicy red wine and oakwood smokiness. The flavour is a nice blend of slightly sweet dark malts, dry spicy red wine on a lightly roasty stouty base. Light, slightly smoky and spicy bitter finish. Nice easy-drinking mouthfeel. Excellent.

Vintage 2013. BA in red wine barrels. Hmm. Cudowny zapach winny, balsamiczny, przypominal mi fiolki w ogrodzie, a takze wlokna kokosowe. Wyglad to srednia piana dwufazowa jakby bezowa i sniezno biala w malym fragmencie, ciemno brazowa barwa. Struktora oleista, melasa, ciemny gryczany miod, mnostwo jagod, jezyn, wisni i czerwonycg gron. Bardzo rozbudowane piwo zarowno w aromaci (bardziej) jak i w smaku). Z poczatku moze przestraszyc zbytnia slodkosc, ale szybko ustepuje i pojawia sie winna taniczna wytrawnosc. Super piwo, a na koniec dostajemy rozgrzewajace cieplo szklachetnego alkoholu. Doskonale, ale do delektowania sie w rozsadnych ilosciach. Perfect quadrupel.

At a tasting, thanks, almost no head, cloudy deep brown color with reddish taints, aroma of caramel, smoke, beef jerky like and candy, flavor of caramel, dark fruits and a whiff of smoke, light pleasant sourness, quite strong But mellow sweetness. Very nice.

Flesje gedeeld met TomHendriksen. Diep donkerbruin helder bier met een rode gloed. Aroma is fruitig, houtig en caramelachtig. Smaak is zoet fruitig (rood fruit), kruidig en caramelachtig en nootachtig. Ook komt de rijping op het wijnvat duidelijk tot z’n recht. Bier om rustig van te genieten. Jammer dat de smaak iets te vlug weg ebt.

Fles gedeeld door Inoven. Het is een donkere bruine quadrupel met een rode gloed en een kleine bruine schuimkraag. In de smaak en reuk komt de wijn goed naar voren, maar ook het gebrande hout is lekker aanwezig. Het heeft een kruidige maar toch ook fruitige smaak.
