Blue Monk Special Reserve is a quadruple which has been aged for 3 years in red wine barrels from Château Haut Breton Larigaudière in Margaux! It is dark brown in color with a beige frothy head. It has an aroma and bouquet of a complex red wine, with a soft taste of spice, berries and black cherries. The flavour is enriched with touches of caramel, fine chocolate, toasted nuts and soft hints of smoke. The fruity elements of red and dark fruits comes from the aging in barrels fine from Château Haut Breton Larigaudière in Margaux. These flavors are adding a slight vanilla note and some refined wood tannins.

Bottle with thanks to Alen! Pours clear reddish chestnut, medium creamy tan head, dissipates slowly, nice lacing. Aroma is smoky, malty, raisins, belgian yeast spiciness, dates, toffee. Flavor is medium sweet, light bitter, lightly smoky, vinous notes and oak tannins take a backseat to dark dried fruits and belgian spice. Medium body.

Bottled at Haket, Göteborg, on March 1, 2017.Clear dark brown color, small tan head. Malty, sweet, a tad smoke, evident alcohol scent. Dark fruits, sweet, some smoke, lots of alcohol taste. Malty and alcohol aftertate. Medium mouthfeel, medium to medium low bitterness. Alcohol comes through in a disturbing way for me, others that sampeld the same beer enjoyed it a lot, just not my beer this one.
