500ml bottle shared with Finn. Brought to Tromsø from Systembolaget Luleå by Gaute. Creamy, fading, fawn coloured head. Spotty lacing to the glass. Body colour is deep mahogany. Brown, roasted malts on the nose, dry and semi-sweet. Mild roasted malts, mid-sweet, in the flavour profile mingled with a little punch of dark fruits. Dry ending. Ok, a bit unvaried perhaps (Tromsø, 29.05.2013).

Medium beige shiny head. Clear brown body with light carbonation. Roasty cocoa aroma with earthy vanilla notes. Dry-sweet roasty earthy taste with chocolatey notes. Mid-bodied. Mild, soft, smooth mouthfeel. Dryish chocolatey roasted grain aftertaste with honey and alcohol notes. Nice, drinkable, has character. (0.5l bottle, Systembolaget, Charlottenberg.)

Dark brown colour with small brown head. Aroma contains som malt, oat and also some fruitiness. Roasted malt, nuts and some figs. Somewhat dry finish.

50cl bottle from Bon Voyage, Berlin. Pours dark brown with a small light brown head. Roasty aroma with malt, coffee, chocolate and hints of caramel and hops. Medium body with fairly lively carbonation. This was my favourite from the tasting pack I tired some years ago, and I still find this one very nice. Rich and roasty flavorus with a balanced bitterness. Surprisingly refreshing and not as sweet as some schwarzbiers I have tried. Sessionable, and certainly a decent brew in my opinion.

33cl Bottle poured into the correct vase shaped glass in the lovely Sophien’Eck a bar in Berlin on 21 Feb 2013. I found the beer to be a lot sweeter than I expected. Looked good in its glass: dark reddy brown in colour with a good off-white head of creamy foam that covered the vase with lacing as the beer level sank. The aroma was of malted biscuits and toasted brown bread but with no real hints to the sweetness within the brew. Sweet malty molasses ruled the taste completely for me: it was OK but a shock to my system. I’d had a draught Schossler Alt just before this and the contrast was huge flavour wise. Medium to thin on the body depth, not unusual for a Schwarzbier I suppose. Overall I enjoyed it: but I do have a sweet tooth.

Bottle. Pours hazy very dark brown with airy light tan head. Clear aroma of malt, smoke, caramel and roasted beans. Roasty and malty flavour ending in dark chocolate notes. A decent schwarzbier.

Das Schwarzbier aus Stralsund ist einmal als solches schön zu erkennen. Kein verunglücktes Porter, sondern ein ordentliches deutsches Schwarzbier mit schönen röstmalzigen Aromen. Was man halt vermisst, ist die Rafinesse anderer Störtebeker-Biere.
