A unique and distinctive beer in the international beerbrewing scene. Sixteen is its ABV, sixteen are the months this beer spends ageing in the wooden barriques. This gives the beer a deep complexity in its flavours, aromas and color. A true barley nectar with an ebony tone, dark and dense, that once in the glass emanates unusual aromas: from vanilla and nutty notes to malted ones, finishing with strong and clear toasted and maderized scents. It has a good minerality and a gentle sweetness

Bottle from K&L. Pours dark murky mahogany, flat, no head or lacing. Aroma is roasty, hints of tart red grapes, vinous, dark fruits, raisins, plums, hints of Brett. Flavor is fairly sweet, lightly bitter, hugely vinous, dark fruits and some dark sugars abound. Fruitcake. Medium body, soft rich mouthfeel, no carbonation.

Bottle. Light hazy deep brown liquid with minimal tan head. Aroma of chocolate, red onion, wood, lemon, coffee, red wine, red berries and oak. Taste is light to medium sweet and light bitter with notes of red berries, chocolate, raisins, tannins and oak. Full bodied with low carbonation. Nice, but a bit sour and weird. Reminds me of Oud Bruin.

First batch bottled in 2008, shared by Mortlach. 8 years old. Thanks. Dark caramel, no foam. Nose: powerful aroma of red fruit jam, macerated fruit, dry figs. Nice. Mouth: far too flat, oxidation did not work well, gone cola. This bottle has not aged well. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
