We are from the city that invented the skyscraper. We constructed our Urban Pale Ale on a balanced malt backbone, so the citrus hop aroma and crisp flavor can stand tall.

12oz bottle. For a city that cranks out World Class APAs, this is the macro crap version I guess. Balanced I suppose, in that none of the ingredients have much depth and merge together well enough. Not so horrendous, just lifeless and uninspired for 2014.

Bottle from Total Wine in Sacramento, CA. Pours brassy gold with a white head. Aroma is grainy with indeterminate hop. Med body or less. Flavor is grainy with some arguably citrus hop. Flavors aren’t very firm. Drinkable.

Smells a little yeasty. Looks like a good pale lager. Decent co2 on the first swig. Taste follows with citrusy rind fruit then to mostly green citrusy pulp. Yes, good sizzle keeps this going. Each swig is followed by a slight medicinal, but building flavor.

Pour is orange with a large white head. Aroma is hard to detect. There is lots of carbonation in this and the head never goes away. I get some hops I guess. Flavor is some dull caramel malt and a light grassy hop. This is kinda bland. No real hop profile and the malts just seem kinda there.

Bottle: Medium depth golden color with a thick and creamy beige head. Fairy consistent sheets of lacing throughout the glass. Light citrus and floral hops in the nose, heavy in the malt. The malt presence in the taste is heavier than I prefer in this style, but its sweet and goes OK with the citrus and light floral hops dose. Easy drinker for sure, definitely plays it safe... keep drinkability (for the masses) in mind. I can’t bitch too much about this as it makes a fine garage beer and is 10-15% cheaper than most craft offerings around town.

Bottle. Biscuit malt and orange peel aroma. Golden yellow with large white fluffy head. Sweet orange-toffee malt and lightly bitter orange peel flavor. Okay.

12 ounce bottle into pint glass, bottled on 2/25/2014. Pours fairly crystal clear deep golden color with a 1-2 finger dense off white head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of lemon zest, tangerine, orange peel, grapefruit, floral, grass, light pine, wheat, biscuit, light caramel, and floral earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance of bright citrus hops and pale malt notes; with solid strength. Taste of lemon zest, tangerine, grapefruit, orange peel, floral, grass, light pine, wheat, biscuit, light caramel, and floral earthiness. Fair amount of earthy floral/grassy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of lemon zest, tangerine, grapefruit, orange peel, floral, grass, biscuit, wheat, light caramel, and floral earthiness on the finish. Nice balance and complexity of citrus hops and pale malt sweetness; with a good malt/bitterness balance and no cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a lightly creamy, smooth, and fairly crisp/bready mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is a nice pale ale style. Good balance and complexity of citrus hops and pale malt sweetness; and very smooth to drink. A nicely enjoyable offering.

Pours gold into a Sam glass. White head with excellent retention recedes leaving sticky sheet lacing. Caramel and butterscotch aromas. Dry with sourdough and caramel upfront turning to an earthy bitter finish.

12 ounce bottle from Beer Run. Pours a clear amber color with a large foamy tan head. Good head retention. Aroma of floral, pine, citrus hops and toasted caramel malt. The taste is citrus, herbal, peppery, piney hops, pale malts and a bit of caramel. Medium bodied, slight lingering bitterness, lingering citrus, soft carbonation. Solid beer.
