Draught at Novare Res, 5/17/15
High clarity through this copper-amber colored beer with a moderate amount of well-retained white head atop.
Straightforward C hop notes in the nose show primarily orange rind, lemon and grapefruit, while some lightly biscuity malts and a touch of honey balance. Light pine, with some tropical fruit notes in the background, mostly blending with the citrus to give that limey-pineapple type of aroma. No resin, thankfully, in the nose, but malts could be a little more supple as the citrics are quite starkly dry here. No alcohol/flaws.
Softer, in the mouth, with a very comforting texture and creamy carbonation. The citrus and pine are certainly pronounced on the finish, with a good deal of bitterness leaving off just shy of growing resinous/heavily acidic. Very clean, with light toasted grains and sweeter honey notes balancing nicely. For an 8% beer, it drinks quite easily, though I could do with a bit more tropical fruit/juicy fruit notes in place of some of this pine and grapefruit.

The appearance was a nice looking hazy orange color with a one finger white foamy head that dissipated within less than a minute.
The smell had a resinous and piney oily bitter hoppiness.
The taste had an amplified sweet to bitter resinous oily hops. There’s a sligh bitter orange to grapefruit aftertaste with a sticky palatable finish.
On the palate, this one sat about a medium on the body with sipping to sessionable quality about it. A decent pounding on my tongue of harshness but nothing overbearing.
Overall, I say this was a very nice DIPA that I would have again.
