It’s an unassuming road leading to the priory. Here, off the corner of two intersecting roads, dedicated monks have been making beer for over 150 years. It’s always been a simple life — the kind that requires they brew only enough to sustain the activities of their monastery. In the silence of passing seasons, they pray, they brew and retire in solitary existence behind the sheltering walls. They live a most interesting life. Most likely one we couldn’t sustain.
Nearby, each summer, the trellised fields spring to life as rows of resinous green cones are trained toward the heavens. Rumor is some monks love these hops and being surrounded by budding yellow aromas and the leafy pungent fields inspired them. Since we aren’t sensible enough to locate our brewery near hop fields, we can only offer this blond ale in celebration of our Abbey brethren and their steadfast Devotion.

Agree with tderoeck, spicy/fruitiness lends itself towards being a saison. Pours out a rich orange color with small, clingy, soapy head. Cinnamons, cloves, citrus all come through mildly in the aroma. More citrus peel in the taste, oranges, tangerines, and some dry spiciness. Belgian ale or saison, it’s pretty good stuff.

Bottle @ D-Day in Mojnlandet :-) Pours hazy light amber with airy white head. Clear aroma of fruit and flowers, with notes of yeast and hops. Bitter, hoppy flavour, with vinous and dusty notes and touches of yeast. Dry and bitter aftertaste. Nice, indeed.

Bottle, 6.25%. Cloudy pale yellow colour. Big stable chalk white head. The flavour is grassy and hayish. Medium bitterness. The yeast does not taste very Belgian. Quite clean and pleasant, but not very flavourful. Too clean, I guess.

Tap at the Lost Abbey/Port Brewing tasting room, 18/04/14. Clear pale golden with a moderate off white covering. Nose is pale malts, light perfume, grass, citric peel, peach. Taste comprises tangy apricot, mandarin, straw, floral tones, light hop presence. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close. Decent Belgian offering with a hoppy overcoat.

A light orange colour, a head is dense, blond and medium. The nose is fresh and fruitfull, oranges, also sweet mandarins, some fructose and hint of spices and marsmellows. Succesfully aroma. Taste is fruitfull and strongly spicy, balanced citrusfruity sourness, some oranges, quite dry. The end is long, quite dry and spicy. Medium bodied, high carbonation, but still quite smooth, fresh. The great and complex aroma leads to nice beer experience, fruitfull and balanced, spicy beer.
