50 cl bottle @ Timo A, BBE 14.12.2022 Aroma has cocoa, harsh malt and mild ash notes. Flavour has tobacco, ash, licorice. Finishes with butterscotch toffee and smoke. Good, the buttery notes in the finish are not that nice though.

500ml bottle. Jet black colour with average to huge, thick, creamy, moderately lasting and lacing, buff, tan head. Relatively weak, roasty, chocolately, dark malty aroma, hints of coffee, dark chocolate, dark caramel, whiffs of toffee. Taste is roasty, chocolately, dark malty, notes of coffee, dark chocolate, some toffee, a parallel, slightly piney, resinous, minimally grassy, hoppy strand; lingering, bitter hoppy and partly bitter roasty finish. Creamy texture, smooth, soft, silky palate, fine, soft, creamy carbonation. A bit inhomogeneous, incomplete integration of malt and hop flavours, very creamy, excellent mouthfeel, not a monster of complexity, but very well crafted - pretty decent.

Almost black with a beige crown that soon turns thin and creamy. Big licorice aroma with roasted grains underneath. Taste is mildly sweet, again the licorice, turns bittersweet and finishes with the unexpected note of plums. Full bodied, extremely smooth with mild carbonation. First couple of sips seemed a touch uneventful for me, and it’s not a particularly complex brew, but there are some simple pleasures here done well and, for a change, with subtlety.

€-Fläschla: Almost as black as expected, nearly medium-sized tanned head, that slowly collapses, nearly solid sweet-bitter aroma of roasted malt and dried black berries, mild pinches of coffee and chocolate underneath; almost solid - You guessed it - sweet-bitter flavour, almost full bodied; returning traces of chocolate and freshly ground coffee plus warming alcohol in the bitter-sweet roasty-fruity finish. Good Imperial Franconian Stout...

Bottle courtesy of Gregor, HopDog München, shared Thursday 8th October 2020. Pours black with an off white head. Soft, really easy drinking Imperial Stout. Wow this is just so smooth, super smooth. Light chocolate and creaminess, chocolate biscuit, really tasty and yet at the same time super simple and delivers without the need to bombard you with a myriad of other flavours. It's interesting how having no adjuncts makes it very simple but super nice.

Vollmundig malziger, passend röstiger Beginn. Geringe Süße, wenig herb, schokoladig. Malzig bleibend, eher trockener Hintergrund, minimal bitter. Würzig schokoladiger Mittelteil und Nachgeschmack, harmonisch, der Alkohol ist gut verborgen. Langer herb-schokoladiger Nachhall. 12/12/13/13/8/12

0.5 l bottle from 'Bierothek', best before October 2020. Clear, very dark ruby to black with a medium large, frothy, stable, beige head. Sweetish-malty, gently roasty aroma of dark chocolate, coffee and some licorice. Gently sweet, malty, quite roasty tasze of dark chocolate, coffee, licorice, some caramel and a touch of toasted nuts, followed by a medium long, quite roasty-bitter, moderately earthy finish. Medium to full body, smooth and slightly creamy mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Rather classic and straightforward Imperial Stout, nicely balanced and pleasant to drink. Seems like Franconia doesn't only brew world class Lagers...

500 ml bottle. Murky dark brown, foamy head. Burnt malt, stromg coffee, some ashes, cocoa, dry lemon peel. Dry bitterness, light malty sweetness. Full bodied, oily texture, soft carbonated, dry bitter finish, alcohol well hidden, round and smooth. Good!
