Sunday Morning Stout, a barrel aged stout from brewmaster Chris Wilson and his team at Weyerbacher. Aptly named too, as SMS is a stout aged in bourbon barrels with coffee. The best part of waking up.

12 oz bottle from Tavour. Nose is vanilla, light bourbon, roast coffee, and chocolate. Black with a medium, lightly lacing, cinnamon tan head. Flavor is lightly sweet, light bourbon, and coffee with vanilla creamer. Nice, my kind of beer!.

2018 bottle from Craft Brewed. Pours a pitch black with a finger of brown head that lingers. Big roasted coffee/espresso-forward nose with booze, dark fruit and cacao nib aromas. Good body, boozy roasted malt, more prune and cacao. Quite roasty & bitter for my liking. Lots of warming alcohol bite on the finish. --- Beer merged from original tick of Sunday Morning Stout on 18 Apr 2018 at 22:44 - Score: 7. Draft, may have been at Seven Monks. Deep opaque brown-black body, thin light brown head. Inky body, lots of burnt sugars, roast, and vinous notes, with ample bourbon and oak. Tannic and boozy; rich but not syrupy. Nice!

355ml bottle (thx, Peter K.!) bottled on 2016-01-25, BB 2018-01-25. Pours an almost black with a quite fast disappearing dark brown head. Aroma is chocolate, coffee, fruity notes. Taste is similar with some odd grainy notes on the background. Good stuff.

Pours black into a snifter. Mocha head with little retenion crackles and recedes to nothing. Soy and licorice aromas. Hot chocolate and soy upfront turning to smoke front to back.

Bottle into a snifter showing pitch black with thin light coffee translucent rims and no head. The nose shows a strong mix of roasted coffee and bourbon with light notes of latte brightened from the barrel. The palate is well carbonated and medium bodied. Bourbon forward with a strong coffee backbone. Bourbon flavors of vanilla and smoke are slightly overwhelming but a lot of coffee has been added to match the intensity. Strong espresso bitterness on the finish with a resurgence of more bourbon. A bit too intense.

Bourbon and dark chocolate nose. Black, thin tan head. Charred oak, almond, prune, and molasses. Maraschino cherries in the finish. Full body, viscous, soft carbonation, a little warm. Very rich, quite a meal in itself.
