Sunday Morning Stout, a barrel aged stout from brewmaster Chris Wilson and his team at Weyerbacher. Aptly named too, as SMS is a stout aged in bourbon barrels with coffee. The best part of waking up.

Bottle. A- Bourbon, boozy, coffee, chocolate. A- Black color, black liquid, brown head. T- Bourbon, booze, coffee, chocolate, subtle vanilla, subtle oak. P- Full body, average texture, average carbonation, strong finish. O- Oh my God. This stuff is great! Honestly shocked it doesn’t have a higher avg. rating than it does. Tons of bourbon, coffee, and chocolate. Smooth but still has a bit of a bite. Surprised it has a best by date two years after bottling. I think it would age nicely. Had mine with about 10 months of age. I imagine 12-18 months is a sweet spot. Very tasty. A bit expensive but worth it.

Thnx to Eric for another ’extra’ in our trade ! Pours jet black indeed. Head is very small. but very dark, so yay- this build up a certain amount of expectations. Smell is pure coffee, rather bitter. Bit ’plastic’ but still very ok. Taste is rather bitter, rich coffee as well as dark chocolate. Mild body and carbo, not as thick as I prefer in imperial stouts, but certainly not bad. Has a sharp bitterness to it. Gets some warmth, and depth from the barrels. Only notes of bourbon. Very hidden in a way. The coffee def. has the upperhand. By the rather thin ( for the ABV ) body, it is surprisingly drinkble for the style, and the expectations. I like it, but I’m not blown away by this. PS. ; Even though I was in doubt following the lines on the label, I passed on drinking this last sunday morning. Even I am not that crazy to drink a 11,3 as breakfast. Enjoying on a thurday night than - at least I’m close.

Bottle shared during Jack’s farewell concert. Thanks to Rudkin for this coffee sauce. Pours black-brown with a frothy tan capping. Heavy coffee aroma, with suggestions of baking cocoa. Medium sweet flavor with lots of cocoa, oily coffee, booze. Medium bodied with average carbonation. Heavy chocolate finish with lots more coffee, brownies, espresso, scorched earth. Solid.

Bottle thanks to T-Bois. It pours jet black with a small beige head. The nose is soft, juicy, boozy, rich coffee throughout, toast, toffee, fudge, earthy roast and some bourbon. The taste is rich roast, earthy, espresso coffee, cocoa, warming alcohol, rocky road and wood with some warmth in the finish. Full body, fine carbonation and oily mouth-feel. A bit chewy & hot, but it does have a lot of flavour.
