To commemorate the one year anniversary of East End Brewing, I’d like to express my Gratitude with this limited release, bottle conditioned Barleywine-Style Ale. Brewed in the American tradition, this beer is big enough to imporve with a few years of cellar aging and large enough to enjoy with a GOOD FRIEND.

Hazy amber color. Lovely nose with lots of toffee, milk chocolate, burnt raisins and cherries. Sweet maltiness and a touch of sour. The mouth is very smooth, lots of milk chocolate, toffee, tootie rolls. Very warming in the finish. A really nice sipping and winter warmer.

Bottle received in trade. Thank you pushkinwow! 2010 vintage. Pours hazy amber with a very small bubbly goldenish offwhite head that quickly dissipates without leaving much trace on the glass. Smell is sweet, malty and fruity with biscuits, caramel, dates, raisins, oatmeal cookies, cereal, hay, caramelized apples, toffee, brazil nuts, caramelized almonds, prunes and hints of alcohol. Taste is sweet, tiny bitter and malty with biscuits, caramel, hay, riasins, prunes, dates, charred wood, caramelized apples, marzipan covered baked pears, caramelized almonds, toffee and hints of alcohol. Mouthfeel is soft, slightly flat, round, slightly viscous and medium to full bodied. finish is sweet, bitter and malty with caramel, toffee, biscuits, hay, grapefruit rinds, raisins, dates, charred wood, baked pears and warming alcohol. Very solid mellow and tasty barley wine. No mr fancypants barrel aged complicasaurus. It takes a lot of skill to make something as solid as this…

Bottle, 2008 vintage. Red/copper liquid with minimal off-white head. Aroma of raw sugar, caramel, toffee, port wine and dried fruit. Quite complex. Taste is medium sweet and light bitter with notes of raw sugar, toffee, plums and sweet alcohol. Medium to full bodied with low carbonation. Really viscous and sticky. Great barley wine, very balanced and complex.

2010 750ml shared by Brad. Glowing orange body. Oily head, soapy edges. Oaky, big woody malt tones. Rich caramel tones, but not overly sticky. A really great Barleywine. Awesome to see a non-barrel aged beer this good. Massive yet balanced.

A - Golden amber with a 2 finger creamy red head. Resilient head, doesn’t fade.
S - Smells like a copper penny with a nice level of American hops. I get a little cardboard and caramel
T - Damn. Overall, it’s a nice tasting beer with a nice healthy happiness, maltiness and bitterness throughout. But the copper penny ruins it completely.
M - Medium body, not much carbonation. bitter finish
O - Overall, I’m pretty disappointed.

750 ml bottle. 2009 vintage blue wax top. Clear crimson red with big soapy head. Nose is old hops, caramel malts, chocolate notes with a slight off note. Flavor is sweet up front with a metallic / copper taste. Oxidized notes... Big oxidized notes, with sweet caramel. Ummm, boy this was a big disappointment.

2009 Bottle. Aroma is full of light dried fruit. Raisin and dried cherry with some plum. A light smokiness and some sherry. Moderate caramel notes and hints of toffee and vanilla. Pours a really nice ruby and burnt amber with a thick light tan head. Light lacing and medium sized legs. Flavor is full of nice sweet caramel and dried fruit. Lots of sherry and grape notes. Fruit is raisin and cherry. Moderate light bitterness. A bit on the oxidized side. Some alcohol spice in the finish. A bit of astringency. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation. Medium astringency with medium high alcohol warmth. Finishes a bit on the thin side. Overall not bad, but on the lighter malt side for a Barleywine. Very fruity and fairly oxidized. The malt character is starting to disappear. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
