To commemorate the one year anniversary of East End Brewing, I’d like to express my Gratitude with this limited release, bottle conditioned Barleywine-Style Ale. Brewed in the American tradition, this beer is big enough to imporve with a few years of cellar aging and large enough to enjoy with a GOOD FRIEND.

Sweet and fruity. Very nice mix of pineapple, apricot and raisin. Interesting color. Bright amber with a yellowish head. Tasty stuff.

2009 Vintage Pours a deep reddish brown with a huge bubbly beige head that persists forever. Upon first pour I and assaulted with aromas of tropical fruits. Upon closer inspection I get lots of toffee, brown sugar, caramel, and dark dried fruits with a hint of alcohol and a faint bit of earthy hop. The flavor is smooth and sweet with just enough ethanol and earthy to provide some balance. Flavors of caramel and brown sugar with a hint of chocolate mixed with cherries, and plums go down quite smooth. Medium to thick body with a moderate level of carbonation and a sweet syrupy bubbly mouthfeel. This is a very nice barleywine, I wish I could try it a bit fresher, but I quite enjoyed this aged version today.

2005 generously pulled out of the cellar by Ryan at the Philly tasting. Dark amber pour with little head. The aromas were sweet caramel malts, red apple, and dark fruits. Like the set of Brandon Lee’s movie, this 11 plus percenter is dangerous!! Smooth and mellow should be the Gratitude slogan. Great body, great balance. This barley wine is delicious. I drank this at a tasting with M, SA Millennium, Stonewall, and ’06 Old Guardian. In my opinion the Stone beers weren’t even close and the Gratitude went toe to toe with M and Millennium. All kinds of wonderful caramel notes, dark fruits, apricots, even some rich molasses. A real stunner....

Bottle, from notes - memory fading a bit as to whether this was the blue or indigo bottle, at any rate the bottle looked pretty nice. Poured a copper color with an off-white head, looked unfiltered, at least it had a lot of stuff going on in it. Aroma was sweet, barley wine notes, with notes of fruits. Grainy notes in the palate.

Sample during Blarney Wine Festival on 03/17/2012. Pours a clear dark copper-amber color with a thin ivory white head that recedes quickly to an outer ring. Sparse patches of lace. Aroma of bourbon, malt, caramel, fruit and hops. Full-bodied with flavors of caramel malt, ripe fruit and earthy hops. The finish is bourbon with a grainy malt aftertaste. Solid Barley Wine overall after a few years of aging.

Aroma of bourbon, malt, caramel, dark fruit and hops. Full-bodied with flavors of caramel malt, ripe fruit and earthy hops. The finish is sweet with a bourbon and malt aftertaste. Solid Barley Wine overall after a few years of aging.

Gold finch vintage: Hazy copper with a small off-white head. Perfumed floral aroma with caramel malty notes, and some nice touches of vineous dried fruit character. Sweet malty flavour with caramel and toffee, lots of peach and a touch of vanilla.
