To commemorate the one year anniversary of East End Brewing, I’d like to express my Gratitude with this limited release, bottle conditioned Barleywine-Style Ale. Brewed in the American tradition, this beer is big enough to imporve with a few years of cellar aging and large enough to enjoy with a GOOD FRIEND.

Courtesy of Per who saved some for me (thanks!). 945/1500 - 2010 version I guess. Poured a murky, nice dark amber body. Lovely sweet tropical fruit nose ending in some alcohol. Smooth taste carrying a similar fruity maltiness, ending slightly salty as expected, but still hardly bad enough to complain. This is deceptively light in some ways. This and Howe Sound are returing my faith in barleywines!

Bottle 750ml. @ home.[ Trade by GAManiac ]. [ Batch 2006 ]. Clear medium red amber - orange colour with a average, frothy, good lacing, mostly to fully lasting, off-white head. Aroma is light heavy malty, caramel, riped fruit, wood, tobacco, moderate hoppy, orange - citrus, dried fruit - berries, alcohol. Flavour is heavy sweet and light heavy with a long duration. Body is medium, texture is oily and sticky, carbonation is soft, finish feel is light alcoholic. [20110722]

2010, blue wax bottle, number 947 of 1500. Pours a hazy, deep burnt orange with zero head. Nose is boozy, coconut, raisin, candy sugar reminiscent of a tripel, estery, yeasty. FLavor is sweet, candy sugar, pineapple, caramel, light fruit, booze, rum. Full bodied, sticky finish. This seemed far too young, overly sweet, lacking complexity. I think this could be great in 5 years, but right now it’s just OK.
