From a 75 cl, already somewhat older bottle with cork and muselet, shared with Jan. Opens with a loud bang, but no gushing. Big, thick, rocky, very foamy head, egg-white and leaving a pattern of lacing; hazy peach blonde with warm orangey hue, the ’mist’ being violently perturbed by whirls of stormy effervescence, indeed very reminiscent of champagne that has been shaken in the bottle before pouring. Aroma of rosé champagne, banana and light bubblegum, Sekt, buttercup flowers, soap, margarine, ripe apricot, sweetbread, tulips, warm apple, toast, bread crust, mashed potato, ginger powder. Vivid, mildly estery fruitiness in the mouth, lots of banana ester but not descending into off-putting ’bubblegumminess’, peach, apricot and pineapple notes, ripe pear even, residual white candi sugar sweetness, light sourish balance, strong carbo but strangely not really overcarbonated and still slick, buttery and creamy mouthfeel. Pleasant bready malt sweetness and a lot of ’wheaty soapiness’ in its core, while sweetness and banana- and honeyish flavors linger, yet countered by the dryness that can be expected from a champagne yeast-refermented luxury beer, directing the palate to an earthy, spicy finish with peppery and floral hop notes, late but effective bitterness, lingering soapiness and fruit flavors as well as an indeed cava- or champagne-like aspect and warming, ’jenever’-like alcohol. Better than expected, honestly: this is basically a typical sweet, earthy and malty, Belgian ’banana ester tripel’ in which the champagne yeast added complexity, dryness and crispness. Enjoyed this and I can see this being very suitable as an apéritif. Probably better at this slightly advanced age than really young.

28/XI/15 - 75cl bottle @ Winters Bierfestival (Vichte) - BB: n/a (2015-1660) Thanks to Bierridder_S and the Gentse Biervereniging crew for sharing today's beers!
Clear bright blond beer, small creamy white head, pretty stable, bit adhesive. Aroma: very fruity, peaches, some banana, yeast, some citrus. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: fruity start, little bitter, banana, yeast, floral notes, bit of honey. Aftertaste: little bitter, spicy touch, some coriander, rather sweet, fruity. I dig this one...
