Draught at Birratrovo, Como
Dark red-chestnut color, with creamy head. Mild aroma of dark malts, very light sourness and ashes.
Caramelized malts, moderate residual sweetness, a bit too much ashes that increase the bitterness. Unbalanced; crossover Belgian Ale and Stout.

33 cl. bottle @ home. Procured from Willems en Zoon. Dark amber brown, quickly fading tanned head. Nose is huge overripe dark fruits in a very Belgian way, boozy overripe dark fruits, caramel, yeasty, sweet. Fizzy body. Woody, leaves, oak, yeast, overripe dark fruits fermenting into alcohol, thick caramel, spices, leaves, bit empty in the back; Tad sparkling. Touch above average, pleasant, good stuff.

This micro brewery in the southernmost part of the country has undergone remarkable innovations in their range since 2012, and this is one of them, though it seems to be still the same beer as Sainte-Hélène Blonde. Yellowish white, moussy, opening head and dark bronze colour, misty. Aroma of fondant, coffee grounds, pear, honey, kahlua, candied orange, pepper; taste citrussy in onset with sharpish spicy notes, gingerbread and apple, multi-layered and agreeable maltiness (nuts, caramel, chocolate), granular mouthfeel, finishing with toasted bitterness, peppery hops and warming gin-like alcohol which ends up a little bit astringent - a slight disappointment for something that started off good.
