La Luna Rossa was created with an initial sour beer which underwent 2 years of mixed fermentation (lactic bacteria, brettanomycetes). Then we added cherries for at least 6 months and we blended the new beer with a small part of other beers. La Luna Rossa is an ale that can remember a Kriek or a Flemish Red Ale. It has an extraordinary complexity associated with a strong character. For lovers of this kind of beers it is certainly hard to forget.

Bottle, 33cl, at Patricks. It’s an unclear, reddish brown beer with some beige bubbles on top. There’s lots of red berries on the nose, vinegar, some caramel, a spiced touch, some raspberry seeds and a vinous touch. It’s tart and medium bodied, with flavors of raspberries, vinegar, some generic berry flavour and a touch of caramel. Tart and berry-flavoured finish. A pleasant one, tart, quenching and tasteful. 121001

330 ml bottle @ Patricks. A murky amber body with basically no head. Almost intense in aroma, acidic fruit, dry fruit, malt, vinegar and wood. Flavor is sweet and sour at the same time, malt, fruit, berries, acidic vinegar, wood and cherries. Fine body and a wonderful aftertaste. This is like Flemish red meeting barley wine. Like this one a lot.

06/07/2011 Brasserie 4:20 (330ml bottle).

Bottle at ACBF 2011. Pours cloudy, ruby-brown with a few bubbles for a head. Sour nose with some syrupy sugar hints. Perhaps notes of toffee. Oh yeah, this is a sour flavor. Lots of maraschino cherries, perfect sweetness, some honey, tart fruits. Medium bodied with tingly carbonation. Faintly warming finish, lip-puckering sourness, light sugars. Lingering sour notes. Great beer. (4.1)
Bottle at the ChrisO Holiday Tasting, London - thanks to Colin. Pours lightly hazy amber-brown with a fine, white foam head. Tangy fruit nose, some plums and berries. Big sour flavor, tart berries, some funk. Salty and sweaty. Light to medium bodied with fine carbonation. Big tangy finish, plenty of tart berries, sweat. Nice stuff. (3.9)
