Bottle shared at a tasting at the Beer & Beyond shop. Thanks Alex420 for this bottle! Opaque black with a bit of light brown foam. Burnt aroma of chocolate, roastiness and soy sauce. Very sweet flavor with lots of chocolate and a burnt and slightly bitter finish. Full-bodied, silky mouthfeel. A good sweet Imperial Stout.

Bottle share at Ma Che, Roma, 09/02/13, big thanks to Luca (Mortlach). Pitch black with a thin tan head that departs edgeward. Nose is dark malts, liqourice, molasses, dark toffee, chocolate. Taste comprises dark roast malt, molasses, light smoke, dark chocolate, soy sauce, booze. Full bodied, thick and viscous, fine carbonation, sweet and roasted finish. A more than decent RIS - perhaps a little too boozey for my liking but well balanced for a 14% jobbie!

Bottle from Alex. Black like soy sauce and just about flat. Nose is vanilla, chocolate, berries, light soy. Lots of sweet vanilla in the flavor, with the other notes mentioned, plus raisins, figs. Very complex, fruity, and spicy. Alcohol is noticeable but not at all huge. Smooth and creamy. Very interesting and original big stout.

50cl Bottle from the man himself, thanks a lot Alex! Pitch black colour, thin dense brown head. Aroma is quite sweet, rhum beans, cocoa beans, toasted coconut, vanilla, bon-bons, pipe tobacco, cognac. Flavour is very sweet but also very well-balanced so it doesn’t become cloying, hard roasted malts, pipe tobacco, bon-bons, chocolate, cognac, hint of chili-burn, slight alcohol heat, vanilla, cocoa beans, coconut, light spicy bitter finish. Full-bodied, slick. Very good, a nice dessert beer, and a better version of the overly sweet highly-rated American RIS’s imo.

Bottle courtesy of rlgk. Pours pitch black with a small dark brown head that doesn’t leave much trace while dissipating. Smell is intense and sweet with roasted malts, sweet liquorice candy, vanilla, milk chocolate, heavy alcohol, dark chocolate, sweet soy sauce, raisins, port wine and wood. Taste is very sweet and bitter with roasted malts, milk chocolate, prunes, raisins in brandy, figs, vanilla fudge, sweet soy sauce, port wine, alcohol, cookie dough and dates. Mouthfeel is sticky sweet, boozy, cloying and medium to full bodied, finish is heavy sweet and bitter with roasted malts, milk chocolate, grape syrup, wood, soy sauce, alcohol, dates, figs, raisins and prunes, heavy sweet. Way over the top!

07/06/2012 Brasserie 4:20, 500ml bottle (thanks Alex!). Nerissima, densa, impenetrabile, schiuma color cappuccino, molto scura. Al naso intensissime note di vaniglia, cioccolato, note liquorose, di ciliegia, alcol. In bocca ha un attacco dolce, cioccolatoso, e un bel finale amaro caffettoso, leggermente astringente. Ricorda certe imperial stout americane estreme come concezione e gradazione alcolica. Corpo medio-pieno, carbonazione soft. Gran birra, dal potenziale enorme.
