The draft (unblended lambic) version of Tilquin’s acclaimed Pinot Gris, tasted at Moeder Lambic Fontainas. No head, warm peachy-hued golden blonde robe. Rich aroma of grape skins, dust, white grapes and even a whiff of dry white wine, sour apples, wet wood, linseed, hay. Crisp, refreshingly sour onset, acidic and lime-like but in a somewhat gentle way, slick mouthfeel, very light fizz; lots of fleshy, juicy grape fruitiness over a soft bready core, drying lactic sourness and tannic grape skin effects, ending with a ‘noble’ kind of dustiness and woodiness, dry hay and grape seed oil effects along the way – until the sweetish juiciness of the white grapes shines through once again, unexpectedly late, but beautifully so. This draft version betrays the greatness of the bottled “Pinot Gris à l’Ancienne” completely – a truly lovely, delicate and complex grape lambic.
