The beer undergoes secondary fermentation in the bottle which gives it a full and rounded taste. This also means that the beer contains fresh, live yeast and the flavour changes in the bottle. The yeast also gives the beer its characteristic cloudy colour. Furthermore, it brings the beer’s alcohol content back to the original 5% ABV.
The Vanneste family used raw, unmalted wheat for its wheat beer. This gives the beer a particularly refreshing character and sets it apart from other wheat beers on the market.
Finally, the beer is being brewed once again with 100% Belgian hops from “Westhoek” region as in the past, namely, the Magnum hop. This hop gives the beer both a subtle bitterness and spiciness.

“Blanche de Bruges/Brugs Tarwebier” is once again one of the most authentic, family-brewed wheat beers on the market. It reflects 5 generations of craftsmanship within the Vanneste family of brewing the typical wheat beer.
In early 2019, Xavier Vanneste, Managing Director of the brewery “De Halve Maan” reached an agreement with Alken-Maes (Heineken) to bring the production of “Brugs” back to its roots and to brew it in accordance with its original recipe in the city centre of Bruges under its original name, “Blanche de Bruges/Brugs Tarwebier”.
"Brugs Tarwebier" was originally launched in 1984 by Xavier’s cousin, Paul Vanneste, at his brewery “De Gouden Boom”. The beer was an immediate success due to its refreshing taste and aromas of coriander seeds and curaçao orange peel.

Für ein Wir verhältnismäßig wässrig, aber gerade noch okay. Orangen, Koriander, passt schon.
