Hapkin is a strong blond top-fermented beer that is refermented in the bottle. The floral touch of Saazhop and the spicy hop variety Monroe determine this rich blond beer. Originally from Louwaege Brewery (Kortemark), brewed from 2001 to 2007 at Brasserie Union (Jumet), then at Alken-Maes (Alken).

The name refers to Count Baudouin VII of Flanders (1093-1119), nicknamed “Hapkin” or “with the ax”. 900 years ago he is said to have commissioned the monks of Ten Duinen Abbey (near Koksijde) to brew a strong blond beer that would make him and his men invincible.

Clear light golden colour, frothy white head, stays for some time, nice lacing. Sweet fruity nose, toasted, fruit syrup, floral, dough, alcohol. Fruity sweetness, light bitterness. Medium to fill body, oily texture, average carbonation, sweetbitter finish, some spicy undertones.
