Our take on a "west coast style" IPA, Jagged Edge is big and hoppy, yet it’s also extremely well balanced, and surprisingly easy to reach for another.
We "first wort hop" with Columbus, and use Simcoe for flavor additions. The finishing hop additions include Columbus, Centennial, and Simcoe. Columbus is pungent with sweet orange aromas and flavor. Centennial adds floral notes along with additional citrus. Simcoe add a nice pine like flavor and aroma. These hops were chosen for their flavors and their moderate cohumulone content, which means they are bitter but not overwhelmingly bitter in large quantities. Pale malts are complemented by caramalt and light munich malts, which both enhance the malty sweetness and color and work to balance the substantial hop bill.

Location: 12 oz bottle from State Line, 3/19/12

Aroma: The nose has some orange/tangerine, a little grapefruit, and some malty notes too
Appearance: It pours a cloudy orange color with a fizzy white head and fairly heavy lacing
Flavor: The taste is mid-sweet up-front, mostly citrus, balanced by a later hop bitterness
Palate: The body is medium, it has a an average-plus carbonation, and a somewhat dry finish
Overall Impression: This was my first beer from Black Diamond. I thought this was a pretty solid IPA, but it wasn't a standout in the style.

Whole Foods Market, DC 6-pack ($12): Pours an orange color with a white head. Aroma is of piny hops, some herbal hops, and then a couple of other hops. I felt that this beer was very unbalanced towards the hops. basically, there are a few hop profiles in here (none of which are really my favorites) and then little else. Pretty bitter, but not brutally so, just extremely piny. An ok IPA with nothing bad going on, but then again not outstanding.

Relatively light golden coloured body with a few bubbles rising from the bottom with a thin white head. Aroma of fresh and rather potent hop flowers with some good light sweetness, a bit of drying oak or cotton and some minor malt flavours - all of that coupled with the very strong and noted hop notes of pine and flowers. Aftertaste nice as well with more drying and hop notes than anything else, leaving the palate relatively dry and refreshed after this one. I sampled this 12 ounce bottle purchased from Bridge’s in Danville, California on 19-March-2011.

This brew pours a clear amber-orange color with a very thick off-white head that recedes steadily. Small patches of lacing on the glass. Aroma of grapefruit and perfumy hops. Medium body with a citrusy hops flavor and mild malt undertones. The finish is hoppy with a lingering bitter aftertaste. Decent IPA overall.

Draft at the Bistro’s IPA Fest. Nose of light caramel and floral hops. Clear light amber with a small offwhite head. Flavor is lightly bitter, lightly sweet with a bit of caramel. 6/3/6/3/12 3 10/09 Bottle from Sandy’s Liquors. Nose of floral and light pine. Head is a big, glass lacing pale yellow one. Otherwise my description reads almost word for word.

Draft. Rich amber beer with an off-white head. Some grapefruit and floral notes in the aroma with a bit of malt. Citrus, light pine, and light earth flavor with malt backing. Medium body. Decent bitterness. Citrus and malt lingers. Good, but doesn’t really stand out in any way.

Bottle from BevMo in Walnut Creek, CA. Pours a clear orange amber with a little white head. Equal aromas of caramel and citrus and floral hop. Medium body with mild carbonation. Citrus aspects make it seem a bit tart. Astringent, even. Finish is puckerish and hoppy bitter. Good IPA.
