The Sculpin IPA is a testament to our humble beginnings as Home Brew Mart. Founded in 1992, the Mart continues to be a catalyst for the San Diego brewing scene, setting the trend for handcrafted ales. Inspired by our customers, employees and brewers, the Sculpin IPA is bright with aromas of apricot, peach, mango and lemon. Its lighter body also brings out the crispness of the hops. This delicious Ballast Point Ale took a Bronze Medal at the 2007 Great American Beer Festival in the Pro Am category. The Sculpin fish has poisonous spikes on its fins that can give a strong sting. Ironically, the meat from a Sculpin is considered some of the most tasty. Something that has a sting but tastes great, sounds like a Ballast Point India Pale Ale.

Gylden brun klar med fingerhøyt offwhite skum. Deilig lukt av sydhavsfrukter, ananas, kanel, lime og lett karamell. Fruktig start, kraftig bitter når du slipper inn luft. Fyldig. God blanding av sødme og bitterhet. Middels lang avsluttning.

Can into a pint glass from The Drinkery, Londonderry NH. Aroma is strong pine, herbs, fruit, spruce, while still being able to glean a maltiness, and some basement toward the bottom of the glass. Appearance is mild hazy orangish yellow with mild sparkle but nice foamy white two-finger width head, mild lacing. Taste is dominant mild-to-moderate bitter but with some sweet fruitiness throughout for balance including into long-lasting finish. Palate is refreshing light-to-medium body with thin, slightly creamy texture and average carbonation. Overall, above average appearance and palate but won’t knock your socks off. Very interesting aroma with some of that complexity translating over to the taste but a little over to the bitter side for me.

Nitro version on tap showing neon yellow with half a finger of clean white foam. The nose shows clean sweet grapefruit. The palate is obviously extremely smooth, full bodied, a lot of pithy grapefruit bitterness, with the fruit showing more in the background and a light bitterness on the finish.

This IPA poured a slightly cloudy golden yellow colour with a huge, cream coloured head. Scents include citrus fruit hops, glue and a little hay. First swig was quite bitter, but a nice fruity bitter. Flavours of citrus juice and hops. Finish was quite bitter with citrus flavours lingering.

35,5cl bottle from Arve_Christian - thanks a lot! Pours clear deep golden with a white head. Strong, hoppy aroma, first pine, then more fruity notes, citrus, hints of tropical fruits, some caramel and herbs too. Medium sweet with hoppy flavours dominated by grapefruit and pine and a rather strong bitterness in the finish. Guess it’s not too fresh, quite tasty it is, but hardly exceptional.

Can@Brewdog Clapham, London - pours a golden colour with good white head. Medium sweet tropical fruity hoppy and malty aroma and taste, some vague grapefruit mango and peach notes. Can was well in date but overall though found this very subdued and not as good as I was expecting.
