The Sculpin IPA is a testament to our humble beginnings as Home Brew Mart. Founded in 1992, the Mart continues to be a catalyst for the San Diego brewing scene, setting the trend for handcrafted ales. Inspired by our customers, employees and brewers, the Sculpin IPA is bright with aromas of apricot, peach, mango and lemon. Its lighter body also brings out the crispness of the hops. This delicious Ballast Point Ale took a Bronze Medal at the 2007 Great American Beer Festival in the Pro Am category. The Sculpin fish has poisonous spikes on its fins that can give a strong sting. Ironically, the meat from a Sculpin is considered some of the most tasty. Something that has a sting but tastes great, sounds like a Ballast Point India Pale Ale.

Tap at Craftheads. Grassy and citrus hops. Decent bitterness. Not a wow factor for me, but still pretty nice. Slight candy sweetnes, bit of fruit.

Bottle. Orange blonde color. Oily hops, grapefruit and pineapple in the aroma and flavor. Blackcurrant. Thinnish. Long earthy oily hopbitter finish. Well balanced, but not a hop monster.

355ml bottle shared with Cuso, many thanks. F: medium, egg-white, long lasting. C: shiny gold, hazy. A: malty, spicy, orange, bit onion effect, tropical fruits, bit caramel. T: sweet orange, onion, tangerine, decent sweet combined with bitter grapefruits, medium to full body, soft carbonation, very good balanced, great for the style, fully enjoyed.

[On tap at the HI, La Mirada, CA.] A hazy amber pour with a lasting white head; citrus aroma; bitter grapefruit taste; and a resinous finish. A fairly standard west coast IPA.
