The Sculpin IPA is a testament to our humble beginnings as Home Brew Mart. Founded in 1992, the Mart continues to be a catalyst for the San Diego brewing scene, setting the trend for handcrafted ales. Inspired by our customers, employees and brewers, the Sculpin IPA is bright with aromas of apricot, peach, mango and lemon. Its lighter body also brings out the crispness of the hops. This delicious Ballast Point Ale took a Bronze Medal at the 2007 Great American Beer Festival in the Pro Am category. The Sculpin fish has poisonous spikes on its fins that can give a strong sting. Ironically, the meat from a Sculpin is considered some of the most tasty. Something that has a sting but tastes great, sounds like a Ballast Point India Pale Ale.

Enjoyed at the Bier Markt in Ottawa. Slightly hazy light golden-orange colour with a warm cap leaving great sticky lacing. Beautiful citrus aromas with mostly orange notes of juice and peel. Same zest creating a bitter finish. Mild juices in the background, but more fruity than sweet. Yeast lingers. The mouthfeel is quite dry. A very nice dry IPA on the orange-citrus side.

Bottle from G Livelab, Helsinki. Orange golden beer with medium head. Grainy, malty, a bit bitter and some alchocol also. Too low fruityness. A bit disappointment.

25/6/2018. Bottle at Park on Fremont, Las Vegas. Pours hazy dark amber with a slightly foamy off-white head. Aroma of hops, pine, caramel, tropical fruit, citrus and malt. Medium sweetness and medium to heavy bitterness. Medium body, oily texture, soft carbonation. Very good, and deservedly a top 50 IPA.

Can from O'Briens, Athlone [220317]
A4, N7, T7, P3, O15 3.6
Amber, slight haze, frothy fluffy white head, light lacing
Aroma - Soft tangerine, citrus fruits, soft pine, slight sweet caramel, getting a slight herbal grassy hop as well
Taste - Citrus zest hops, some sweet caramel malt, dab of orange barley sugar, some bitter lemon zest
Palate - Soft carb, medium body, soft sweet malt, bitter zest hops, fairly bitter, hint of alcohol, not gooey. Finish as main flavour, a bit dry, bitter zest linger
Overall - Refined IPA, less hoppy than expected, but is an old school IPA. I think I prefer Anchor Liberty Ale over this. Absolutely not in the Top 100!
