Simtra Triple IPA delivers a punch in the face with its very danky hop aroma derived from Simcoe and Citra hops. You wanted more hops you got them.

On-tap in the Seal Beach outlet of Beachwood BBQ on 15th July 2014. Slight haze to my golden pour, the head a steady white crown. Citrus hop notes hit the nose and mouth, almost sharp flavour at first. Thought the alcohol was not hidden too well compared to other Triple IPA’s or beers with similar ABV that ooze hoppiness. I did however enjoy this beer.

The Sampler, Brooklyn tap: Pours copper with a white head. Aroma is a massive helping of citrus and pine. Malt backbone is, however, also evident. Feels like you are drinking hop oil, given the texture. That said, this is still very drinkable considering its large size. Not overly bitter. Also not overly sweet. Surprisingly well mixed considering its triple IPA status (if that is even a style...).

Bomber received in trade. Thank you StefanSD! Pours hazy golden with a rather small frothy offwhite head that leaves lots of sticky lacing and trace on the glass while dissipating. Smell is sweet, tiny fruity and tiny herbal with caramel, sweet dark bread, resinous wood, pine needles, moist grass, grapefruit rinds, orange peal and lemon zest. Taste is sweet, bitter, malty and herbal with caramel, sweet dark bread, biscuits, resinous wood, pine needles, lemon balm, grapefruit juice, orange peal, moist grass and hints of metal. Mouthfeel is round, tiny sticky sweet, oily bitter, slightly boozy and near full bodied. Finish is sweet, bitter and herbal with caramel, toffee, grapefruit rinds, pine needles, resinous wood, moist grass, orange peal, lemon zest and alcohol. Less than 3 months old but very sticky. Tasty US style barley wine, only the slight metal notes drags it down.

Bomber. I don’t see any possible way a beer that is 11.3% (as per the bottle) with Simcoe and Citra could be bad. Just thought I should get that out of the way. Pours a light orangish gold with a decent head and aromas of ABV, fruit and resin. The nose was much more available at the onset, but it seems to burn off as this one airs or something. Flavor is boozy and hoppy. Darn nice. Lots of ABV warmth on the back end and a nicely balanced huge beer.

Bottle at home, from the Best Damn Beer Shop, 03/05/14. Almost clear golden amber with a moderate off white head that stays for the show. Nose is bitter hops, pine, caramel malt, orange pith, tangerine. Taste comprises caramel malt, bitter hops, grapefruit, dank tones, pine bite, boozey punch, light perfumed notes. Fullish body, fine carbonation, semi aggressive hop bitterness in the close laced with booze. Ok DIPA but not to draw, just a little overly boozey, the 11% is pretty evident.
