750ml bottle-pours a dissipating light tan head and hazy amber/brown color. Aroma is vinegar/tart fruit. Taste is vinegar/tart fruit-cherry, oak/grain, some medium malt. Not my style, but with cherry pie, nicer.

Pour is a murky brown with a average white head. Aroma is of red wine and vinegar with some tart cherry. Flavor is very tart with some red wine like qualities with a bit of cherry and other berry fruits. Finish leaves a wood smoke on the tounge but nothing over powering. I used to not care for sour ales but in the hands of the right brewer they can do amazing things.

Cloudy dark amber body (SRM of 22 according to my new BJCP Color Guide) with a medium rocky off-white head. Sour fruit aroma with light raisin, caramel, molassas, and oak hints. More sour flavor, light fruitiness, with the oak starting to shine through more, and a bit of caramel. Medium body with mdoerately high carbonation and nice sour finish.

Pours reddish brown with light tan head. Funky sour aroma. Slightly sour with earthy and musty flavors. Not as sour as I was expecting, but very good. Medium body with minimal carbonation and a short dry finish. My first beer from JP and I look foward to trying more.

[i] [b] Bottle shared with Casey, Tracey and Loz at a great American tasting evening 11-04-08 hosted by Casey and Tracey, cheers mate! [/i] [/b] This beer has some old wine characteristics on the nose (noticed by Loz) and aroma wise was really quite like an vintage red classy wine. Pours deep amber with a white head and a tiny speck of orangey yeast sat on top of that head, slowly the aroma changes to that of an old forest with slightly wet and musty leaves being kicked up by each footfall. Lovely gentle fizzical thing going on in the mouth, with a good sourness there as well. Tingly tangy sweet and sour fruitiness with a gentle rush of wild bitter cherries. At the edges there is a bittersweet toffee thing starting to show and a nice earthiness to it continues to impress and fizzess gently on the tongue, lovely beer. Great start to the evening!

Bouteille 12oz, courtoisie de Hogtownharry. De couleur ambrée rouge et voilée. Nez de levures sauvages fruitées (cerises sûres, léger de pommes vertes, notes de raisins blancs), boisé (fût de chêne), moyennement malté de caramel avec des petits notes d’alcool et de sucre bonbon. Moyenne-mince en bouche avec un pétillement moyen (rappelant un peu un cidre) et une texture moyennement crémeuse. Goût de levures fruitées sauvages moyennement acides (cerises sûres, raisins blancs légèrement vineux, léger de pommes vertes cidreuses, notes de prunes jaunes) aux notes terreuses avec des notes épicées lors de l’entrée en bouche auquel se rajoute un goût malté de caramel avec des traces de sucre bonbon. Parallèlement l’on retrouve un goût boisé (fût de chêne et bois humide) et accompagné d’un léger goût d’alcool (rappelant le whisky) jusqu’en finale, où l’on retrouve également de faibles notes de fromage vieilli et où le goût fruité devient légèrement plus aigre et un peu asséchant. Post-goût moyen et un peu sec, aigre de levures fruitées (moût de ceises sûres et de raisins, pelures et pépins de pommes vertes) avec un goût boisé (fût de chêne) et de faibles notes d’alcool.

Dirty-beige, good head, fast gone over dark hazy red-amber beer, with plummeting UFO’s. Brett nose, wet (cherry)wood, cherrystones, and some moorplants (bog myrtle?). Soft, mild, but very present (red) fruit - not necessarily cherries, rather strawberries. Less Brett in the taste, faint (fruity) sourness. Wood especially retronasal - bit of woodstripper and dried fruits. Extremely carbonated without becoming fizzy. Surprisingly light bodied, but not empy. Definitely one of the best tries/batches I’ve had from J.P. A sour ale to challenge the best Belgians. Thanks to CK!

Fiery orange-red colour. Lots of head, from the gushing bottle. Has a clean gooseberry tartness and some grapey notes. Spritzy body carries some dusty yeast character. Has a pleasing fruity depth that salvages the beer from that fizz.

Bottle. Pours a murky brown body with quite a bit of cloudiness to it. Aromas are sour and like white wine with some wood and fruit notes. Flavor is wonderfully sour which quickly follows an initlal malt presence that is best defined as oaky. The transition to tartness is quick and a little brusque. That said, I find myself really enjoying this particular Jolly Pumpkin take on how to make a beer both sour and good. The tart nature of the beer is held in check by the organic notes of oak and yeast, which keep it from being a true pucker experience, but this is still not for the faint of heart.
