New Beer Distributors, NYC 375ml (too much): Pours red with a small head and a thin layer of lacing. Aroma is cherries, vinegar, some spice. Taste is rather on the sour side. A lot of earthiness and wood. I can taste something akin to cork in there as well. The sourness is sort of at the top of the beer. Nice finish. I would have liked a little more at the finish, but I shouldn’t complain.

Draft - Light balsamic, cherry and soured malts. Clear copper with a good beige red head. Tart cherry, woody notes and light balsamic. Great local example of the style, well done.

750ml bottle, shared but mostly drunk by me with dinner the other night. Poured a dark ruby color with a small light tan head. Aroma was a touch of funky notes, some cherry, oak. Nice sour notes, some barrel. Sour cherries, but not supper sour, which makes it quite enjoyable to drink. Fabulous funky, slightly acidic. Nice carbonation makes this one lively from start to finish.

750 ml bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 4/8/2013. Pours slightly hazy/cloudy deep reddish copper color with a 1-2 finger dense light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of tart cherry, cranberry, lemon zest, green apple, plum, raisin, red grape, caramel, leather, vinegar, hay, straw, grass, oak, clove, musty funk, and yeast earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of fruity/funky yeast, oak, and moderate malt sweetness; with great strength. Taste of big tart cherry, cranberry, green apple, lemon zest, plum, raisin, red grape, caramel, leather, vinegar, hay, straw, grass, oak, clove, musty funk, and yeast/oak earthiness. Good amount of fruity/earthy tartness on the finish; with lingering notes of tart cherry, cranberry, green apple, lemon zest, plum, raisin, red grape, caramel, leather, vinegar, hay, straw, grass, oak, clove, musty funk, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a while. Fantastic complexity and balance of tart/fruity/funky yeast, oak, and dark malt flavors; with a great sweetness/tartness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth and moderately slick/acidic mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is well hidden with only a slight warming present after the finish. Overall this is an awesome sour red ale. All around great complexity and balance of tart/fruity/funky yeast, oak, and dark malt flavors; and very smooth and crisp to sip on with the balanced acidity. A highly enjoyable offering.

0.75l bottle from blend 11,2011 shared with the Tasting Crew. Popped the bottle and waited, waited, waited and waited. Then! It came like a good old Jolly beer should. Slowly rising and things are back to normal. Tons of big chunky dark floaters and sediments floating about in a really warm glowing amber colored body and it has a small thickly sidesticking light beige top. On the nose I get nice little hint of both paint thinner and red wine vinegar. Soft woody and tart, a little it of sour berries and in general it smells really nice. Soft oily in the mouth and it has a nice just below average carbonation. The Jolly flavors do not disappoint at all. It's not to much or over the top, just refreshing, gentle tart and sour fruity. Like a Jolly should be. Lots of red berries such as sour gooseberries, sour red currants and a gentle vinegar hint in the back. Ends with a light mouth drying lemon sourness in the finish and aftertaste. Just lovely balanced and super easy to enjoy. This is a nice beer. 23.10.2013

Slightly hazy brown colour, white head. Aroma of wood, light sour, honey and citrus. Sour flavour, wood, malts and citrus zest. Finish malts, wood and citrus. Bit thin. Blend one, bottled 2013. Not getting the fuzz about this one. Not bad, but nowhere near great either (or is it just not aging well?)

@ RBBWG 2014. Amber red colour, medium carbonation. Sour and fruity aroma (red berries). Bitter and dry finish. Medium body. Good, but I expected more.

2013 Vintage (Batch 1 – bottled on 01/17/2013). 75 cl. bottle sampled @ RBBWG 2014. Courtesy of & thx! to JefVerstraete. Pours hazy fox amber. Nose is not bad, sour mix reminds me of the other Jolly Pumpkin beers I have had, I assume that this is their signature. Nice stuff, funky, tangy, light cherries, pomegranate, cranberries, touch lemon, nice funk & sour profile. Taste is a letdown, watery, weak, lemon & berries sour, same sour mix, lime, faint cherry, as said before, just weak & watery. Not sure why this is rated so high, it is not terrible or anything but for a sour this is weak to say the least. Have the critters thinned it do much in the last 12 months?
