Aged in large oak casks then bottle fermented, La Roja is a Franco-Belgian style ale crafted on the Flander's tradition of aged and blended beers. La Roja is rich and lush with undertones of caramel fruit and spice. Truly an ale of grace and distinction.

Cloudy orange to amber beer, small aery white head, unstable, non adhesive. Aroma: lots of bretta (which is not the kind of sourness you expect in a Vlaams Bruin/Rood), bit funky, musty, spicy touch. Really smells more like a geuze than a Flemish style sour. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: pretty bitter start, sourish, spicy, lemon juice. Aftertaste: very bitter (also not traditional), grapefruit, hay, bit chemical, yeasty, dirty ending. For me it doesn't work if sour ales are so immensely hopped. Doesn't work for me.

Bottle at RBWG14 Pours lightbrown, bit red . No real head Smell is very Grainy, sour , oaky , cherries Taste is nicely sour , dry , bit sugar , some cherries . Good carbonation

Bottle @ Home. Pours hazy burnt orange with a fading offwhite head, light lacings. Aroma of malt, light caramel, oak, light sourness, light vinegar, coconut, little spicy. Flavor is light sour with malt, light bretty, tartness from the oak, vinegar, spice. Thin body, average carbonation, dry light acidic finish. 281213

750 ml bottle. Pours a slightly hazy brown with lots of carbonation but light head. Aromas of brett and citrus. Flavors of sour grapes, some oak, and vinegar. Flavors are up front but dissipate quickly.

From the November 2013 3R6P tasting. +++ Sampled from a 750 ml brown bottle this beer poured an orange-caramel color with a medium sized foamy tan head that left decent lacing. The aroma was tart vinegar, cherry, plum, oak and pepper. The flavor was tart and sour but was a bit thin with a tangy cider vinegar presence. Very long sour cider vinegar finish. Medium body. Ok.

Small creamy longlasting head. Aroma is slightly sour-ish, red berries, butterscotch, oak, sorrel, almond essence. Taste is slightly sour-ish, mild vinegar, oak, sorrel, grass, almond essence. Medium bitterness, slightly dry mouthfeel. Nice enough.

Draft in snifter with burger at Jolly Pumpkin. Strong tartness followed by gentle sweet fruitiness. Very good!

Blend 22, Bottled 12.12.2011. A great colour, a reddish brown, a head is beige, quite weak, but still long lasting. The nosi is complex and very tastefull, cherries and balanced sourness are dominating, also, sweetness, earthyness, some balsamico, red wine vinegar and other fruits. In taste there are more sourness than aroma,cherries, other red fruits, dry wooden barrel and earthyness, balanced sweetness. Taste is not so complex than the great and enjoyable aroma, I almost just could smell this. Medium bodied, slightly sticky with low carbonation. The great beer with an excellent aroma, also nicely complex and the sourness is nicely balanced to the other flavours.

Bottle split at JF’s, from an IP trade by myself, 21/07/13. Blend 14 2009. Murky amber brown with reddish hues and a good sized light beige head. Nose is tarte fruits, soured berries, tobacco, oaky tones, sugar, dried dates and raisens. Taste comprises dark fruits, oaky notes, soured fruit, bitter orange, dates, stewed prunes left to decay a little. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, light woody boozey notes in the closure. Decent complex sour Flemish red.

Bottle. Pours clear red brown, with a small creamy head. Aroma has a massive amount of canned cherries, as well as a nice oakiness and balsamic vinegar. Flavour is sour with apples, cherries and grapes, as well as some nice funky notes of brett and oak.
