Aroma has lots of dark, tart fruit, some light acetic acid and complementary oak notes. Fruit is tart cherries, currants and berries. A nice tannic character as well. Pours a burnt amber with some ruby highlights. A tan head that recedes to the edges fairly quickly. Some light lacing and small legs. Flavor has a lot of dark, tart fruit with complimentary acetic and oak notes. Much like the aroma, the fruit is cherries, berries and currants. The acetic acid and acidity as a whole is lighter than a Flanders Red but works very well. Very light bitterness with some lingering acidity and oak notes. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation. Low carbonation with medium alcohol warmth. This was blend 10 from 2010 and has ages very nicely. The acidity isn’t as intense as a Flanders Red but it works well with the bright fruit and nice oak notes. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Aroma has ripe cherries, some woody notes and hints of vinegar. Flavour is sweet and sour with some oaky notes, cherries, vinegar and dark fruits. It seems that the sour house flavour of JP does not fit perfectly in dark beers.

Refrigerated 75 cl bottle poured into a tulip. Pours translucent chestnut brown with large crimson hightlights and small beige head. Medium lacing, medium body, well carbonated, and slightly tart aroma. Taste is earthy malt, tart pear, oak, some caramel, and herbal hops.

Fra flaske for andre gang på Cardinal: første gangen likte jeg den ikke, men jeg er tydeligvis på en dannelsesreise innen surøl. Denne oppfatter jeg nå som lettdrikkelig med et fint eikepreg fra fatlagringen. Må prøve mer surøl i Belgia til sommeren. Opp fra 1.9 til 3. Jeg kommer meg!

On tap at Hill Farmstead event - dark red, cherry red with minimal head. Very oaky with some cherries. Tartness on the nose. Taste is sweet with wheat and more wood. Half tart / half oak. Very nice flemmish red. Peaches on the finish.

Bottle from Beers of the World. Blend 10. Reddish brown wth lace. Nose of cherry, vinegar, caramel. Light sweetness, medium sour aspect. Flavors of cherry, caramel, a touch of chocolate and vanilla, wood, cinnamon, other spices. Very nice, clean. Very drinkable. Bitterness is rather surprisingly strong, sourness mild.

Aroma: Sour fruit, dusty caramel, woody and spices
Taste: Sour, dark fruit, caramel, woody and berries, dry
A nice easy drinking sour, the barrells come through without being overpowering. Nice.

750 ml bottle. Blend 17, Bottled 9/16/11. Aroma is oaky, bretty, vinegary, caramelly, dark fruits. Pours hazy amber with a centimer-thick off-white head that collapses into a blanket after a few minutes. Taste starts out lightly sweet before quickly turning sour and finishing with a dry bitter tang. Good, but I prefer the other Jolly Pumpkin beers I’ve had.

Bottle at home. Pours a very hazy orange colour with a small off-white head. Classic flemish sour ale aroma with sour and bitter berries, towards rowan berries, and woody oak, but a bit milder than other beers of the same style. The flavor has a more acidic touch and distinct bitter berries. The beer feels fresh and has a slick mouthfeel. This is a real good flemish sour ale, well-balanced, and not too far from the best ale of the style.
