BATCH 16 (blended in March 2014) was distributed as follows:

Type in BATCH
Brandy 37%
Oloroso 27%
New Oak Medium Toast 12%
New Oak High Toast 12%
Late Burgundy 12%
This Quadrupel Oak Aged has a deep-bronze colour topped with an amber head. Its aroma is defined by mixed wood and honey notes. These are followed by vinous flavours with a lingering port- or sherry-like scent.

The taste is quite smooth and full. For a Quadrupel this batch is rather dry and well-rounded as a result of a long maturing period in oak or acacia barrels. A two-year aging period is sufficient even if the full taste of this batch, if properly stored, warrants a good couple of years of enjoyability. Besides the effects exerted by red wine and brandy barrels, this Oak Aged also underwent Oloroso influences. The hop taste has all but vanished, but wood and wine tannins have left an agreeable bitter flavour.

Bottle@yesprs - amber coloured pour with thin beige head. Sweet malty aroma and taste, with lots of dark dried fruits, caramel, toffee, brown sugar, some nice spices, and wooden nuances on the palate, lovely brew.

375 ml bottle from Beergium.com
Brown, moderate hazy body, with a big, dissipating, creamy, beige head.
Complex, luxurious aroma of red wine, dried fruits, oak barrel, brown sugar, red berries, sherry.
Taste quite follows this, with the wine and oak notes more dominant and maybe a bit less complex as the nose.
Medium, velvety mouthfeel, with a soft carbonation.
Finishes warm, but not too alcoholic, astringent, with dominant, long-lasting, quite dry oak notes, wine, some fruits.

Delicious! My first of the Oak Aged batches, enjoyed this much more than their standard Quad. I love beers with distinct oak notes and this one has lovely oak everywhere! I dare to say it comes quite close to the famous, big three Quads from Belgium.

Bottle, 375ml corked. The aroma has lots of dried fruits, some chocolate and a faint booze touch. Some dark sugars too. Cellar and a vinous touch too. It’s full-bodied and lightly warming on the palate, with a soft carbonation. It’s smooth and full-bodied, with lots of flavors. Dried fruits, brown sugar hints, cellar hints and lots of vinous notes in the aroma. Lasting finish. Pretty wonderful this one, sure a beer to repeat. 141228

Bottle split at Bruce’s pad, thanks to Paulo Mac Quad, 24/10/14. Lightly hazed chestnut brown with moderate beige spotting and edgework. Nose is caramel, stewed fruits, dates, toasty wood, spice, fruit cake, light vanilla, hint of sherry. Taste comprises bitter dark fruits, spice, sherry tinged wood, dates, toasted brown sugar. Full bodied, fine carbonation, lightly warming booze in the close. Another solid Quad from La Trappe.
